I just got a 2013 XC and I’m getting terrible buffeting. I’m 6’ 2”. Do you think I should go 11” or 12”? I’d like to see over it as opposed to looking through it. Thanks in advance.

The problem is the turbulence behind the larger windshields. This is rectified by having a small opening so the air can get underneath and smooth out some of it. I personally use a Madstad which is (in some peoples' opinions) ugly, but it's quite functional and does a great job of reducing or removing the buffeting.

There are many options. You can probably go 12" and still see over it.

The problem with asking for opinions see, is, that once you ask for them, you get them. Here's mine - I agree with Broggyr you can probably go 12" and still see over it fine - BUT - you'll still have buffeting. At least I did, until I addressed the wind coming up from underneath the tank, hitting my legs and shooting right up to my chin. I cut that wind down a lot by installing my own version of hard lowers right inside my forged bars. I cut them out of 1/8" lexan and no I don't have a pattern but there's a thread about it on this forum somewhere where I show how I made my own hardware out of some angle brackets too. It works really really well and is on it's 3rd year of service so it's proven itself many thousands of highway miles. The JTD hard lowers are a commercial version which has adjustability but I kinda like that mine are basically invisible. Your mileage may vary.

I have decided I need to do more work on it too. My Magnum has those forged bars and will get JTD Fillers. Right now I have the soft close outs and still have not tried them. I hear they make a big diff. Fairing wings wont work with the forged bars.

At 6 2 I know I would be easily looking over my Gustafson 11 inch. At 6 1, I would not be happy at 12. You can always shave them down with a belt sander. I bought the most expensive shield on the market to prevent cracking and a better review history/ reputation.
Its only part of the solution. Bobster Goggles wll mask some of the turbulence.

I'm 5'10". I use an 11 inch Windvest windshield. I was using Bailey Flectors in the forged bars very similar to the ones id-man made. By the way, great job on those. Anyways, I used that set up for the last 7 years and it worked great for me. The left flector recently broke off and is lying on an interstate somewhere. I found out they are not made anymore. I also have soft lowers which I used but there's no air flow in the summer heat. So I ordered the JTD Lowers, I think it will do the job.

You will need something to deflect the wind coming through the forged bars, the wind hits your legs and then comes up to your face. I found the left side is more turbulent because of the placement of the motor. Try riding with your knees right up against the tank and you'll feel the difference. Good luck with what ever you decide to go with.

I'm probably not much help, but you asked. I have a 13 XCT so it has hard lowers. I'm 5'6" Mine has the Madstad, I would have to actually measure the actual shield height, What good about it is the adjust-ability of it. Up, tilt and some down. It took me a bit to figure out I needed to move mine to get a little better air movement, less buffeting kind of thing. They do make some different size windshields for the Madstad.

I had a 2011 with forged bars and the Madstad shield worked the best. When I sold that bike I put the Madstad on my 2016 CCT after trying several options on that bike as well. I’m still not sure I like the look of the Madstad. It’s the best option I’ve found if you don’t want to look through a tall windshield.

I'm 6'2" and have been using Gustafsson windshields since 2012 or so. I am currently running a "+4" 13" Euroflip which allows me to look over the top and is the "Light Smoke" (grey) color. While there are several less expensive brands, these are substantial shields, one of the thickest I've seen and don't skew vision in the curved areas.

I am planning on getting a Gustafsson also, like the look. But will mention that I bought one of these "Wind Deflector Lower Triple Tree Chrome by Kuryakyn" and most certainly have noticed a real reduction in some "buffeting" that I had been experiencing.
