Since I can't post in general forum yet, I figured I would post here. I really need some help deciding, hopefully from people that have gone the same route as I have. So, here's my story!

I'm getting close to middle 40s. Have been riding since high school, always sport bikes. Almost 6 years ago we had our first kid, and I sold my bike and haven't owned one since then, until a couple of months ago, when I bought a Kawasaki Ninja 1000, thinking it will be perfect transition at my age from my last bike (Gixxer 1000). To make a long story short, while it's fun for short, spirited rides, I need something more relaxed for day-to-day riding. So, the big question is, for all of you that got a cruiser after riding sportbikes (or look for sportier cruisers), what Victory do you recommend?

I really like the look of the Judge and the Gunner, but having never ridden a cruiser, I'm not sure what to even look for. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure of your location but Victory is out cruising parts of the nation with demo bikes. Check their site for a location.

I was also in same boat as you, went from sport bikes years ago. Rode my buddies jackpot several times and loved it. Found a hammer that I loved. Hammers are close To a jackpot but bigger front tire. But now looking at cross countrys more.....

I came from a Kawasaki GPZ900r, initially thought the Judge and booked the Aussie two day testride deal.
But in the meantime before my ride came up I spotted my Vegas on Gumtree in Melbourne 1200 miles away, flew down cashed up and rode her home...loved every second of the trip home...couldve kept right on going!
Then the Judge ride came up so me and a lady took it on a 600 mile two day blast....very enjoyable ride also, but getting back on my Vegas was a joy after the Judge....I knew I'd made the right choice.
Ride a few...decent rides not just round the block...and see what you like
I just found a bit more comfort in the Vegas, though I enjoyed the Judge too... it was a 013 model, the 014 has more forward feet and hands, Id suggest trying both though both can be adjusted by swapping controls....
Whichever bike..run it in/or buy run in, then some breathing enhancements, pipes ,sport filter or torquetubes, a bit of advance,
maybe cams. Topped off with a Power Commander 5 with a Dynotune and your power lust wont be found wanting:)

I used to ride a 05' GSXR600 fully modified and race prep'ed for 7 years until I got injured while on deployment preventing me from riding sport bikes for more that 5 minutes at best. So I started looking for a replacement and found Victory. Loved the looks and the claim of power. So I went to a dealer and messed with the Vegas, High ball, Hammer, and Gunner. I ended up buying the Vegas because it was the most comfortable and I liked the way it looked the best. I've done a couple 2-3 hr trips without anything other than a numb butt happening, so it's a great bike. Only down side to making the change to a cruiser is the fact that you're gonna have to "learn how to ride" all over again due to their characteristics. If Victory would offer a bike with proper tire sizes (180x18 rear and a 120x18 front) I think the handling would be much improved. Either way it's a great bike with decent power from the factory but with the typical exhaust, intake, and tune you will make respectable power.

I'd definitely take JTS 140's advice and check the schedule for the factory demo rides and then hit two, not just one. Get there early and ride every bike they have at the first one.
Even if you think your gonna hate it. Where else are you going to be allowed to beat the snot out of someone else's $30,000 bike.:)
Then when the second one comes up you should have a pretty good idea of what you want, bring the misses and try the bike you think is what you want with the different options available on it so you can sort out what is important to you. Those options are more separately than packaged on the bike.

That is exactly what did. The OL bought her's on the first demo ride cause she fell in love with the XR and was good. The 8 ball was in her price range.
I bought the XC 8 ball because I didn't want the ABS brakes. Personal choice. Nothing wrong with them just I don't stop better with them and when you change the fluid in the brake system they can be a butt. I don't need anymore expensive things to fix, have enough.

Then after the demo ride you get a certificate for $1000 off that is good for a couple of weeks and you can use it at any dealer.
Shop around and see what they will come down to and check out their used inventory which isn't eligible for the rebate too. You could find what you really want, just the way you wanted it or even better a year or two old and save more than the grand by buying grandma's Sunday morning going to church bike for less than a new one - rebate.

Another suggestion is try to find a demo ride in a small town.
Our first one was in Cottonwood AZ which is a relatively small community and the route was awesome.
Had some great corners and was quite long. The guys leading the rides were really good riders so there were plenty of chances to run them hard and quick. The second ride was at AZ bike week . The route was much shorter and there was so much traffic on the freeway
that you could barely get up to freeway speed. Pretty disappointing after the Cottonwood ride. Try to hook up with a demo ride where traffic isn't going to be a real headache so you can actually find out what you are buying before you cough up the cash for it. Get there early because if you are going to ride every bike they have you will be there a while. The cool thing is those demo guys really don't care you can ride them all 5 x if you want. Just don't make them late for dinner.

I love baggers.
With a bagger the extra gear goes in the bags and when the weather changes I change too. Want to stop by the store, put a bag of groceries in each bag. Driving rainstorm? No worries the bags are waterproof. I keep a compressor and tire plugging kit on hand.
I generally end up fixing other peoples tires but every once in a great while I actually fix one of my own. Usually on the car. :crzy:but you meet people who are actually very happy to see you that way.:ltr:

Thanks guys, I guess a demo does sound like a good idea. Wish I could take them home for week at a time :)
