I have a 2005 Vegas with 11,700 miles with the 92c.i. engine; this morning I installed RPW slash pipes and the Lloydz VFC 3 in the bike. After all was said and done the bike will crank but wont start. I tried everything, I pulled the tank off twice to make sure I hooked up the fuel line properly, I even bled the system a second time to make sure I pressurized it right the first time.

I checked all the fittings with the VFC and everything is secured, I just put brand new spark plugs in it as well as I thought that might have been the case. I spoke with somebody at Lloydz this morning and they ran through the start up sequence with the VFC on the phone with me and they said the VFC is working fine.

It still has the stock air box but that shouldn't prevent it from starting. I have an S&S air box on the way which will get here next week.

Anybody else have any suggestions? Am I not priming it enough? I followed the service manuals suggestions of priming it 3 times before starting, that still didn't work.

Like I said, the started turns and turns but it just wont start; almost like its not getting fuel but I know it is.

I also check all the fuses and they all seem fine, and yes it has fuel in it, almost a full tank.

Any suggestions?

Not really familiar with VFC but I would disconnect it and hook the ECM back up stock and see what happens .. When hooking up my PCV I noticed a small bit a packing material in the pins and if had tried to hook it up without removing and cleaning might still be trying to get it started.. Also added Dielectric grease as well when hooking up .. Good Luck on this ..

pull a spark plug and get it to touch the motor and try and start what your looking for is spark.
BO NOT HOLD PLUG
Maybe you need to prim the fuel line. Turn key on wait five seconds turn off turn back on and do it again and again they try and start bike.
If plugs are wet its getting fuel. Bike will not start on wet plugs. Buy plugs from auto parts store cheaper

I did the priming several times with no luck. I also pulled the plugs after priming it a bunch of times and the plugs were not wet. I didnt try the spark to the spark plug touching the motor yet. If i dont hear any better suggestions im gonna pull the VFC off tomm morning and see what happens.

check fuel pump fuse 10a check engine fuse 15a turn ignition and stop key on and listen or fuel pump. Are you hearing the pump come on?
Yup did all that. Checked all the fuses and the pump does come on and the fuel system does prime.

I would hook straight up to the stock ignition again,take out the VFC3. If it runs it's the VFC3, it will be lean is all. Would not ride it around a bunch this way with those pipes. Also if you are getting spark, you could try an old school thing and squirt a (LITTLE) starting fluid in the intake when cranking,if it fires then you know for some reason it is NOT getting fuel out the injectors.

May want to check fuel pressure as well. Have a friend with a jackpot and it would not start just after riding about 20 minutes or so. Shut it off and would not start again. He checked pressure and very low. He could here the pump cycle but it was bypassing into the tank. He is sending it off to have it repaired. By chance if you have the same problem it is cheaper to pull it and send it off then buy a new one. The person ( whom I don't remember his name ) is a Lloydz's recommended mechanic. I'll have to get with my friend to get the man'a info.

I'm the guy that does the fuel pump repairs. Yes, the pump can fail without warning. If the plugs are dry, that's a decent indication. To be 100% sure there is a test port under the RH cheese wedge. It takes a typical automotive style pressure tester. Test takes about 90 seconds if you have the pressure tester. Knowing the pressure will go a LONG way in determining what is wrong with your bike.

Ok so i pulled the VFC off and primed again per the service manual and the bike started right up. I didnt want to believe that it was a bad VFC so to be sure i hooked the VFC back up and the bike started right up. The only thing i could think of was that i must have not fully connected something the first time even though i triple checked everything yesterday.

As of now the bike is running great, i want to that you all for your advice!

Sometimes through all the excitement we miss a step or two and if you are lucky it will not cost a arm and leg. Good thing about the experience is you have more knowledge of your bike. It will be a lot easier trouble shooting when something goes wrong.thumb up
