200 dollars for the first and only oil change I will have the dealer do. When I dropped it off I asked about the bike not handling well and even asked if removing the trunk would help. They looked at me like I had two heads. They said its a great riding bike. I asked them to please check my air pressures and left. Two days later they said my bike was done:(

When I went back to get my bike they said everything was fine and justified the 200 with this check list they gave me. I rode the bike home. It was a bad ride lots of traffic and bumpy roads for over an hour. When I was there I bought a back rest because that trunk was killing me. While I was putting on the back rest I figured I would check my own pressures. The tires were low by a few pounds and the shock had 15 PSI. I wasnt happy. I pumped the shock up to 70 and put the tires where they belong, took off the trunk and went for a ride.

What a difference its like a different bike. The first cpl weeks it took to put the 800 miles on the bike were not fun. My buddy who bought his bike the same day and I were saying we made a mistake. The test ride was good but that bike had no trunk and probably had air in the shock. I called my friend and told him to check his shock. His had 20PSI. He just had his service done the same day also.

I dont know but for two hundred dollars you would think they would check the air in the shock. I even asked when picking it up how much they put in, he said they like to put in 60 psi. If you got your bike from MOMs South in Foxboro Ma be sure to check your pressures before leaving the lot.

I realize the dealer wasn't stellar in this deal, but the owner should take it upon him/her self to check tire and shock pressures. Why would you ride hundreds of miles and not check the pressures knowing the handling was suffering? Yes, the dealer didn't do their job, but the owner didn't do his job either. Then he comes on here to complain about the dealer. Typical.

60 lbs for a solo rider or 2 up? kinda much for solo even with
a trunk isnt it?

Lets put it this way. I just paid over 20k for a motorcycle that the dealer told me was the greatest thing since sliced bread. He waved as he sent me and my wife on our way on a bike that didnt have 5 miles on it out onto the streets with no air in the shock. I have worked for myself since I was 20 years old over thirty years doing hvac. In my field customers should change their own air filters and such but rarely do. If I installed a new furnace in your home but heck why bother check gas pressure let the customer do it. Oh wait they could die if its not right. Same could happen on a motorcycle going down the highway.
I posted so others would see it is something that should be checked. Then I bring the bike back and they dont check again. Oh but Im complaining? Im not using some cartoon name I use my real name so if Moms has a problem with this post they will know how to find me.
Did you pull out an air gauge and check your tire and shock pressure before leaving the lot? I doubt it.

He waved as he sent me and my wife on our way on a bike that didnt have 5 miles on it out onto the streets with no air in the shock. I'm David Fiore and I've read your posts and I've been to MoM's multiple times but, never for service. Before I pulled away with my significant other, in May 2011 with my very first bagger, I requested that the dealer (Bill) and the Victory Tech (Kyle) confirm the rear shock was inflated to 70 psi. I knew this was what I needed because I'm ultimately responsible for me and my spouse on my motorcycle and I asked for the XC manual before I picked it up. No, I didn't check it before we rode away, but I didn't have to because we would have bottomed out, if it only had say 20-30 lbs. psi. If that were the case, I would have been back there with a not so pleasant discussion with both of them.

Maybe that should have been your approach? Was the tech who worked on your Vic new? Did he forget to check? They need to know that so it doesn't happen to the next owner. One thing I do know is that right now, their service department is backed up eight weeks. That tells me they are missing things because they are jammed. Not the best situation.

I respect your intentions for letting others know what happened with the shock and dealer. My point was that you road 800 miles with a bike you didn't feel safe on, and knew what it should be capable due to your test ride experience. I give you credit, I would have gone back to the dealership as soon as I noticed something was wrong and let them know about it. Based on the two strikes the dealer has already, I wouldn't stick around for number three. Enjoy the ride!

Hi David.

The service manager looked me square in the eye and told me they put 60 psi in the rear shock while I was paying them.
Maybe Im to trusting because I try hard to take care of my customers and if you tried to get a new furnace or AC from me right now it would be a while before I could do it. Being busy isnt an excuse. It is what it is. I bring one of our service trucks to get a oil change and they check the tire pressure I see them do it. I come to your house to check your furnace I make sure its safe to use.

If I read a thread like this before I bought my bike, you bet I would check before I left the lot.

Thanks I wasnt bashing Moms I was a little ticked but all in all I guess it is my fault. Honestly I thought the bad ride was all the trunk. The thought of checking the shock never entered my mind. I figured it was where it needed to be. It rides so good now I may never put the trunk back on even though my wife went crazy when she saw me take it off.

Sounds like a fair call to me,
Id expect a brand new bike to have correct pressures,
I rode 1200 miles with 30 lbs in the tyres cos I trusted the seller of my used Vegas when he said he checked the oil and tyres, gauges vary wildly at public gas stations too.
Id reccomend buying a quality gauge.

I never trust the dealer, when I had the dealer put new tires on my Cross Country Tour I rode it home and checked the tire pressures the next morning when the bike was cool, the tires were under inflated with the front tire only having 18 pounds of air, the rear tire at least had 30 pounds of air but in the end both tires were severely under inflated.

I have bought a No Mar tire changing machine and will do all tire changes myself from now on so I know they are done correctly.

I have the centramatic balancers on my bike so tire balance is of no concern.

As for the handling I never remove my trunk and feel the bike handles great no matter if it is just me on the bike or if it is me and my wife.

Al, I've had a machine repair biz for over 40 years and during that time I have learned there a lot of guys who are dangerous with tools in their hands. Most are "factory trained" techs working on their own brands. Especially when it comes to air, I do not trust that the tech's gauge is correct, or if he even used it.
When I travel and will be renting a car or bike, I take my air gauge and check tires and suspension at the rental agency. Always, they are low and I'm told I am the first who has ever done that. I reply that my life and wife's life depends on proper air pressures, especially on a bike. I am appalled that you not only did not check the air, but continued to ride even after you suspected something. The "what ifs" here are numerous.

Thanks I thought I was the only one lol

So far Ive been called Typical, a Whiner twice and one guy is even Appalled at me. wac
I guess I should have the oil tested. Make sure they really changed it because its my responsibility. I should have marked the filter, make sure that was really changed. Maybe a torque wrench and repair manual to check all the nuts and bolts too.

My thought when I posted this thread was Dont depend on your dealer or anyone else. Even if you pay them 200 bucks for an oil change where they look you in the eye and tell you they did something they didn't. So I guess I did read the manual to know it should be 72 psi and I did check my air an hour after paying someone else to do it. So I did take responsibility and I even posted about it so others trusting souls would know to check things themselves.

I am appalled that you not only did not check the air, but continued to ride even after you suspected something. The "what ifs" here are numerous.
What I suspected was the trunk because of everything I read about it even on this forum. I didn't want to remove it until I got the money to buy the back rest. I cant remember the last time I rented a car. I never rented a bike so I cant say I would check air or not. I doubt I would unless they looked low.

Im not a bike mechanic I have to trust the dealer or repair shop for things like that. The problems I was having was more at low speed like stop and go traffic. I was very surprised how heavy that trunk is.

Al,

I had my first and last really bad service experience at my first Vic dealer a couple years ago. Frankly, I should have known better but, I learned my lesson well.

I only go to one person now for ALL my XCT motor work, including oil changes. Even though I could easily do them in my driveway, I get to hang out at his shop with other like minded individuals and enjoy the 55 mile round trip ride. My suggestion is to drop by Kyle's shop: 382 Boston Post Road, Westerly, RI and introduce yourself. I feel confident enough to guarantee every owner here, who have had any experience with Kyle would say he is a highly competent Victory mechanic and a great guy.
