I was contemplating buying the products frow witchdoctor.com to relocate the ignition switch to behind the back cylinder and eliminating the left side chesse wedge. After pulling an evil knievel move i am in the middle of "customizing" the bike. I had the tank off and wanted to see just how close the stock wiring was without the extesion. with a little re routing the stock wiring harness is plenty long to accomidate this move. The stock coil bracket/chesse wedge bracket has to be cut to accomplish this anyway. By splitting the bracket skillfully with a 4.5 inch angle grinder and a little bench grinder assistance it is possible to modify the leftover piece to relocate the ignition without purchasing any of this kit. I will take pictures once the paint dries and I get another kitchen pass to show finished product.:cool:

If you're going to move it, MOVE it!

Maybe it's because I've never owned a HD, but I can't imagine why the key is located down there to begin with; talk about illogical ancient history!

The last quirky ignition I dealt with was my folding key '76 BMW 100 /6, located on the head tube. (It folded so it wouldn't get crushed in a full lock turn) But at least, it locked the steering; these side ignitions serve no purpose whatsoever, other than inconvenient nostalgia.

I'd vote to move it up top; they make waterproof key locks now. ;)

Aesthetics

Goot-z, for me it was more personal preference. On my shovel it was easier to rewire there because I had to cut out bad wiring so moving it to the coil location allowed me to move the aftermarket coil to the upper motor mount. On my vegas it allowed me to remove the extra cheese wedge that is way more gaudy than I prefer which is also a great reason to get rid of the stock air box and an excuse to upgrade the air intake.

As for the bracket modification it can be done without purchasing the part from whitchdoctor...however the bracket that I bought said it would work for any newer Vic to relocate the key. It did after a little massaging from my 4.5in angle grinder. There is an angle piece on my 08 vegas that would not allow it to bolt onto both bolts at the same time.
