Looking for Recommendations to Replace Rubber Brake Pedal Pads

464 Views 11 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Joe_
Below is a picture of the aftermarket brake pedal on my 2012 XCT. As you can see, three of the four rubber pads on this brake pedal have come loose while riding and are long gone - exposing the slots into which the three pads were glued. Does anyone have any suggestions for where I could find some replacement rubber for these slots? I would be happy to cut, carve, shape, etc. the rubber but am just not sure where I could find some. It is about 1/4 to 3/8" thick.

Auto floor mats, truck mud flaps, worn out bicycle tire, cheap rubber floor/door mat, old rubber boot sole, ,,,,,,,,
53canuck, Thanks for the ideas. bicycle tires are too thin. I need ~1/4 inch thick. rubber floor/door mats are too soft/spongy. Auto floor mats are too thin and full of ribs. Rubber boot soles might work. I will have to look at that. Mud flaps are an excellent idea. That will be the first thing I look for. Hmm... now where do I find those?

Geez, am I a dumba$$ or what? I never even thought to look for a replacement kit. Thank you very much. I will order one today.

If that's from my former Big Red Machine, the pedal was ...

Regular Long Horn
$84.00 USD size 2.125x4

... from Dain's:

Thus, you might want to contact that outfit, via the web form or phone, and maybe you can get new ones free.
wspollack, Thanks. Yes, it is "your" bike and that pedal. That pedal looks so much like the Kuryakyn one that I went ahead and ordered the replacement pads for the Kuryakyn pedal in hopes that they will fit. They were prime on Amazon so should be here tomorrow or Sunday.

I could have sent you a chunk out of my old tire a couple months ago.
djh3, Thanks but I suspect the post above showing the pad kit available on Amazon for ~$15 will work great.
The rubber pads at the link above worked GREAT! They come with what appears to be a 3M adhesive double sided tape applied to the back. I was unimpressed with this tape. I easily rubbed it off with a finger. I scarred up the back side of the rubber pads, scarred up the metal surface to which the pads would be applied with a small cut-off wheel in a Dremel and glued the pads in place using E6000 glue. They seem to adhere well but time will tell. The fit seemed very good. each pad fit into its slot perfectly and tightly.

I like "The Right Stuff" works as a great gasket maker and an excellent trim adhesive. Its whats holding my saddle bag side reflectors on after they fell off just sitting outside in the sun one day.

the 3m tape you received is likely counterfeit. Particularly if the product it was on was made in an Asian country.
Not only China btw. Seems to be an Asia thing mostly. Stuff looks convincing but as you mentioned it can barely support it’s own weight.

I keep some genuine 3m double side on hand for that reason. It’s a much better product. The Asian stuff goes directly to the trash can.
Walmart seems to have the best price for small quantities and a good enough selection.

Glue of some sort is a much better idea for something taking that sort of abuse certainly.
