I stumbled upon a very lo cost luggage rack this past weekend by complete accident. This may soound stupid but it worked perfectly so judge me if you want but it cost me nothing. We took a three day trip down south thtis weekend and on all my other trips I strap a tank/tail bag to my tank. I was packing my saddlebags the night before leaving and noticed that there was very little space between my backrest and the license plate frame that I have on my bike. So, out of curiosity I placed the bag behind the backrest and it sat perfectly on topo of the license plate frame and in no way could make any contact with he fender or any other part of the bike. The frame acted as a support for the bag....just as a luggage rack would. I must say that the license plate frame I have is a rather large one and not a typical small frame. It is pretty tall and bulky, which you can see from some of my previous posts. Any way, we rode over 1,350 miles this past weekend with the bag strapped to the backrest and resting on top of the licens plate frame and we had absolutely no problems whatsoever. So if you're looking for a lo cost luggage rack consider buying a sturdy license plate frame and you will kill 2 birds with one stone....Laugh if you want but dont knock it until you try it....IT WORKED GREAT!!!!! Just trying to help my Victory Brothers with tight walletts like mine.

Always good to hear about low cost/no cost tips. Any chance for a pic for us visually challenged folks?
I can certainly do that. I have to do a good washing tonight so I'll set it on there to show you what I mean. It's incerdible how well it works.

I am also tight with money. I used an 18"x12" section of closet rack. I cut the cross wires out of the last 6", bent the ends into hooks and put bolt on the inside holes on the backrest. I install it by putting the ends through the backrest, hooking them onto the bolts and putting bolts through the rear holes to hold it up. After getting it on I strap a rollbag (aka cordura trunk) onto the rack to cover up my redneck rigging. So far I've used it on 2 500+ mile trips packed with a freezer bag, 4 frozen water bottles and 4 refrigerated water bottles and never had a problem. It's worked good and keeps the water cold for about 8 hours.

You'll have t use you imagination cause I'm not posting pictures. Wouldn't want to risk copyright infringment...

Holy crap, you guys are ganging up on me! I'll get some pics and try to get them up just to keep the peace. Too bad there's no way to get an anti-ridicule agreement; I'm pretty sure my ghetto engineering is going to get mocked.

No sweat Bbob; I'm a thick skinned big boy and this is just a forum. I mess with people, they should mess back. Some the forums make you feel like you have to edit your edits to make sure nobody is insulted. Thankfully this one lets you goof off a bit and nobody gets too miffed.

Just spotted this bracket on J&P and figured it might be a good addition to this thread in case someone wanted to get one and make some changes to it for another low-cost luggage rack option.
