pretty easy, 4 screws hold the outer shell to the inner. Once those are out, the inner is held onto the bars with clamps.
The clutch side has the connector for the ipod and the 12V connector to disconnect. You may want to just "tie up" the ipod connector, its connected inside the fairing.
I take the deflectors out of mine for summer but leave the rest of the lower in place because I like the storage. Still warm, but better. There's an "E" clip on the bottom of the deflector, then pull the pin, you have to gently lift deflector to get it over the pivot point, but that's not too difficult, then the whole piece pulls down out of the friction hinge.
There are multiple threads about heat on the XCT. Some say have the deflectors open an inch, some say 2 inches, some say open all the way then close an inch... Just about as many opinions as bikes.
I'm not taking my CCT lower fairings off because I've been playing with the vent openings to find a suitable solution. Here's the key as I've discovered it regarding the upper and lower fairing vents:
It greatly depends on your speed and the temperatures.
Yes, I know, not very specific. But the vents are easy to open and close with the toe of my boots when going down the road. Or with a hand when stopped. At slow speeds, up to about 30 to 35mph, leaving the lower fairing vents fully open moves a lot of air and works fine. Much faster than that though and you'll only be blowing the very hot engine and exhaust heated air onto yourself. Making the situation much worse.
Last night I road about 170 miles in temps well above 85. If the lower vents were open more than an inch, I got way too much hot air blowing up behind my legs and onto the seat. Fully closed was too hot due to not enough air movement. Cracked open just about an inch worked pretty good. I also use the Victory air circulating seat pad as no matter what you do, the seat will heat up. The seat pad helps a lot.
Make sure you also fully open the vents along the bottom of the upper fairing. The shape of the lower fairing tops are sure to direct a lot of air on and around the sides of the tank keeping your lower torso and the front of your legs cooler.
I also frequent a Wrangler TJ forum - there is a thread similar to this there and it has 1,000s of responses. You can get ideas and learn from what others are doing with their toys - so, lets see if it works here...

I do love the wonderful adjustability of the helibars but I don't love that they are thin tubing and subject to feeling wobbly. Really hard to get used to bars that don't feel like they are solid.
I do need pullback. I need to find something that can give me plenty of close bar reach without...
