Hey there all,

A couple of months ago I installed the Vicbagger's lowering link. I love how the bike sits. There is one little problem, though... the rear end now creaks a bit. Mostly over bumpy roads. I can actually sit on the bike, and bounce up and down... and it creaks quite a bit. Anyone have any idea what point in the linkage needs the grease? Are there any solutions to this (other than to stop bouncing up and down :smile)?

I'm quite certain the belt isn't too tight. If anything, it's a tad bit loose (it squeals some when cold, then quickly goes away). I'm getting a new rear tire this week, and I'm going to make sure they adjust the belt to specs.

I do appreciate any and all feedback.

My guess (very strong guess) is that your lowering link is broke!! You better have someone look at it...and get another one. I think Witchdoctor sells one that has proven to be a stronger lowering link.

Check for a serious breakage....but outside of that I used to get the same creaking/squeaking until I started regular lubrication of the rear suspension pivot pin. Whenever I do a tire change or if I start hear the noise I'll pull the pivot pin, clean it and apply liberal amounts of molly grease. Some people have gone as far a tapping in a grease fitting.

The upper spherical bearing needs to be lubed . Remove the lowering link (EASY) pull the bushings off either side of the upper part of the link and clean the spherical bearing thoroughly with brake cleaner or simple green . Since its giving you trouble , I would use a good quality grease , lube it up good while rotating the bearing and add a little dollop of grease on either side before reinstalling the side bushings ...

Obviously , as Arkie said inspect the link for any visible damage , but the upper bearings are notorious for squeaking .

It may be the pivot pin as PaiN has suggested but I doubt it , the aftermarket lowering links are notorious for having a squeaky spherical bearing , thats where I would start .

I had the exact same problem as the OP. I took mine apart last weekend and as Mags said it was the spherical bearing. It had no grease in it at all. In retrospect I should have packed it with grease before I installed the link, but there were no instructions that came with it.

The spherical bearing is pressed into the top of the link. Remove the two silver collars like those shown in the picture in the thread to which Mags posted a link, and push on the bearing from one side. For lack of a better description it looks like a men's wedding ring. It will rotate so the ring blocks the opening. Clean the inside (tip: stick two small screw drivers on either side of the "wedding ring" and rotate the ring to get to the entire inside surface.) Once clean, apply a good moly grease. Use the same tip to get the grease all throughout the inside of the bearing.

The same bearings are in the swing arm as well. I suggest you clean and re-grease both of those as well. And since you've gone this far, it isn't much more work to pull the top pin on the linkage holding the shock and link and inspect it as well. Mine was fine but others have had issues. Re-grease it as well.

This.

I took the linkage apart this afternoon. The lowering link was fine, but needed grease. A thorough cleaning along with and a packing of grease later, the bike is back on the road, with no squeaks or creaks.

Thank you all for the assistance... the time that you have given to help me with my bike on this and other projects has really been greatly appreciated!
