Here's a "tip" ....

Yesterday I raised my handlebars up as high as they could go. I then adjusted the clutch and brake levers up a bit because raising the bars throws the angle off.

Off for a ride I went ... and I noticed every time I changed gears, my display (kms, trip, mpg, etc) kept changing.

That little switch you use for this was being bumpbed by the clutch lever ... so I took a file and filed the end of the switch button down a bit ... now the clutch lever doesn't bump it.

I'm sure many of you already know this but hopefully I'm not the only one who didn't.

I didn't know this until a year or so ago, when I posted a question about "randomly" changing display info. I was then told what was going on, directed to some earlier posts, etc. This was right after I changed my clutch position so that it aligned with my fingers reaching straight out.

IMHO, Victory must have designed this by committee, or maybe multiple committees. "Sure, let's let the rider adjust his lever to his liking, but then we'll mess with his mind if he does so." Similar to having three fore/aft shifter positions, but if you use one of them, the linkage rod isn't long enough, or it's too long, or something like that -- I think I read about this on Visions. In any case, I find this pretty sloppy implementation work on Victory's part; I want more attention to detail on a bike of this price range. I think Victory should've recalled the clutch lever, and replaced it with one that can't bump into that switch.

I did the same thing ( raising the handlebars as far as they would go ) but I guess I got lucky. I did adjust the clutch / brake so I guess I adjusted them to where they wouldn't touch. Or maybe I just didn't notice the display changing. Now I'm going to have to watch this for sure the next time I ride.

But that is a great tip, I'm sure many of us wouldn't have thought to look for that.

I did the same thing and couldn't figure out what the heck was going on. Then when I got home and Started looking I noticed it. I just adjusted it a little more and it doesn't touch. But sanding a little off the end would be a great idea.

Add me to the pig pile. I did the same thing. But, instead of filing a notch, I just rotated the lever back down just enough so it doesn't hit the button :)

You know how you keep quiet on certain things because you think it will make you look like a complete and utter dumbass?? This is one of those times!!!! Thank you for letting me know I am not the undisputed King of Idiots but am in a very handsome and intelligent group of motorcycle riders that do not read the owners manual cover to cover before the first, second, third rides or ever!!!! Hope everyone is enjoying some decent weather. 82 yesterday and 80 today. Yes, she is in the parking lot!!!!cheers

I have not noticed this behavior- but you got me curious.. I'll definitely be checking this out.

I noticed this too, until I got larger diameter grips. They won't let the lever come back as far. Problem "solved"

So glad of that!!

(coz I've referred to myself as an idiot a few times)

That brings up my fav line ....

See, I'm an IT guy and been supporting users and their computer problems for a long, long time. Oftentimes when asked "what was wrong with it?", I'll respond ... "it was the ID-10-T switch" ... :ltr:

Me too, I refer to it as an "ID-Ten-Tee" error. When they ask me what it means, I say 'write it'. ID10T :D

All in jest, of course. There are many of these :) I've been ITing for about 14 years now.

27 for me .... time to hang up my guns LOL (3 more years and then I'm retired)


I suppose you've also used the "picnic" anaolgy???
