Off to Sturgis in 3 days! 1st time going. A buddy and I on seperate bikes. He on a RK, me on my XC. Can't wait!

Google maps says to go through Spokane and Montana, but it seems out of the way and all boring interstate, so I chose my own route.

1st leg: Portland, OR (home) to Twin Falls, ID
2nd leg: Twin Falls to Casper, WY by way of 26 through Grand Teton NP.
3rd leg: Straight up and over on 25 and 90 to Sturgis.

Anyone take this route? Anyone live along this route? Any advice or things to watch out for?

Thanks.

You may know or not, but you can specify google maps to offer various options or ask that it find routes off interstate etc. It's in different places on mobil vs pc locations but poke around and you'll find it.

From spending time on the interstate tho, aside from being boring that machine will cruise all day long at 82mph without so much as a hiccup. While it can be "about the ride" if you need to go quickly its comfortable as all get out.

I have ridden from Twin Falls to Casper, while in Twin Falls be sure to check out Shoshone Falls and the spot where Evel Knevel tried to jump the Snake River Canyon, if you're going they the Grand Tetons you might as well go thru Yellowstone, both are gorgeous and worth the detour

Going east on I90 I would get off near moorcroft, WY and take HWY 14 north/east towards devil's tower. You will hook up with WYO HWY 24 to get to devil's tower. Don't go into the park, unless you want to, because you can stop at gas station and get great pics with devil's tower in the background with your bike near the park's entrance. HWY 24 continues east to and becomes HWY 34 in South Dakota. Before you get to Belle Forche, SD on HWY 34 there is the Stone House. This abandoned house is turned into a bar (with live music) outside. Very fun place to stop and get pics. Continue on HWY 34 to Interstate or Sturgis.
