I've got a set of what I believe to be Ness Ram Bars. I was looking at them yesterday and noticed the cross bar is only welded on the front side. The top and bottom parts of the weld look bad, and the back side has a .175" cap at its largest spot. If anyone else has these bars, did they do the same thing or do I have an off brand set? I have a buddy who is going to weld them and I am getting them powdered so it's not a huge deal. Just wondering why they wouldn't complete the weld.

A full weld bead isn't going to add any more practical strength other than aesthetics. Admittedly, the gap is ugly looking and that would annoy me too. Perhaps the builder was concerned about heat stress/distortion? Then again, they could drill a small hole underside to exhaust welding gas. If you are getting it powder coated. take the effort to grind and smooth the welds beforehand so the bars look real nice afterwards. You'll appreciate the effort longrun.

Thanks for the replies. I had them welded Saturday and should have them back from being coated tomorrow. There was no extra cost involved for either, so I'm still into these for only $120. It was just the gap that really bugged me. I couldn't really grind on the welds either, as the gap was so big they are either pretty flushed of slightly recessed. If I ever decide to go another route, I want to be sure how to advertise these as well.

Thanks,
Kyle
