I am 99% sure my neutral indicator switch is going bad, problem is I am not 100% sure exactly where the switch is located. I am thinking its behind the front pulley cover, but before I tear into everything, i just wanted a confirmation on its location. Thanks in advance.

I think the neutral switch is behind the rear cylinder sticking up easy to see.
Turn key on with bike in neutral if it will light up. They pull wires of switch. Light goes out you know you have it. Mine works screwie too

I think that one is the speed sensor, I pulled that plug apart when the N light was working and it didn't go out. The service manual gives you a diagnostic test for the neutral indicator switch and states that the plug behind the rear cylinder that has a black/pink wire is the N switch lead. I can see that plug and the wires from it disappear behind the front pulley cover. I am not sure exactly where they go, but you have to pull the pipes in order to get to anything in there. I don't have a new switch yet so I am hesitant to get in too far just to see where it exactly is and have to put everything back together and then take it apart again once the switch gets here. Hopefully I don't have to remove the pulley to get to it. I guess the switch not working isn't a big deal as long as I can start the bike by pulling in the clutch. I just hate having things not work that are supposed to work. The switch is around $35 so its not too expensive to fix.

If you have to remove the exhaust, you should probably also replace the crush gaskets used between the exhaust pipes and the head.

But not with OEM gaskets, they're too hard. There are aftermarket ones that are more squishy.

Switch is below front drive pully facing out. Failure is EXTREMELY rare
With the bike in neutral, i am getting an ol with my meter checking the black/pink wire coming from the switch to the engine ground. The neutral light comes on briefly at the light check when you turn on the key. The neutral light intermittently works after it is running. The gear indicator works in all gears once moving and the bike will start if you pull the clutch in even though the N doesn’t light up. Is there anything else to look at? Bad ground maybe?
