Good afternoon fellow Victory owners. I'm just joining the group and look forward to interaction with all of you so that we Victory folk can better enjoy our machines and rides. I'm currently looking for information on oil useage. My local Victory folks tell me the 20W40 Semi-Synthetic oil (by Victory) is the only oil I should use. What say all of you?? If this is not true...what oil have you folks been using...I pay $10 per that good?

You are asking a million thread question.
The new Victorys are recommended to go 5000 miles between oil changes. 50 bucks in oil is every 5k is not the end of the world.
I will not get buried in another oil thread beyond that observation.
Couple things.
Search and you will be enlightened.
The requested method of posting on this board is to put the bike(s) you ride in your sig line so that others will know for what machine you are requesting info.

Welcome to the madness, and yes Vic oil is fine and will stop excuses from the dealer and the company. Some use different oil, and you can pay $5 to near $20 a quart if you want.

Check out the link CR posted and enjoy the ride. BTW, I like recycled peanut oil, it smells like french fries. :ltr:

It does state in the manual that you can use a different oil as long as it meets the specs for a wet clutch or something to that effect.

Since they state that in their own manual it's hard to believe that they would argue that using a different oil caused a problem as long as it met the wet clutch specification.

I just changed mine out at 5,290 which was 4,790 since last oil change and it was Victory oil. The clutch was growling a little when coming to a stop and engaging the clutch in first gear and that was at aprrox. 4,000 miles which it doesn't do now, very smooth.

That tells me that their oil doesn't quite stand up to the 5,000 miles they state it can go between oil changes.

I'm now using Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40, which meets the wet clutch specification.

Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 is designed for sport bikes. Most of these bikes have multi-cylinder/multi-valve engines and use a common sump, which means the engine oil lubricates the engine, transmission and wet clutch. So unlike Mobil 1 for cars, Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 motor oil has no friction modifiers, which could lead to clutch slippage.

The Japanese Automotive Standards Organization (JASO) has created their own set of performance and quality standards for petrol engines of Japanese origin.
For four-stroke gasoline engines, the JASO T904 standard is used, and is particularly relevant to motorcycle engines. The JASO T904-MA and MA2 standards are designed to distinguish oils that are approved for wet clutch use, and the JASO T904-MB standard is not suitable for wet clutch use.
For two-stroke gasoline engines, the JASO M345 (FA, FB, FC) standard is used, and this refers particularly to low ash, lubricity, detergency, low smoke and exhaust blocking.
These standards, especially JASO-MA and JASO-FC, are designed to address oil-requirement issues not addressed by the API service categories.

Amsoil is an excellent product also.
