Looking to buy a victory once I can sell the car. Been riding since I was 18 (mostly Honda's). I currently have a VTX1800. Thought this would be a good place to learn some and do my research before I buy...

Do it! They're great bikes. If you get one, hit me up. It's only about an hour and some change to Tuscaloosa from me

I was just over in Starkville the other day. Had to check out MSU since it was so close. Just an excuse to ride....

Anyway, Do you know of any good dealers in the area? Maybe one that will let me test drive a victory? That would be a huge plus as the demo tour doesn't seem to be coming anywhere close anytime soon

The closest ones are Ridgeland, MS and Tuscumbia, AL. There's a small bike shop here in town that has a used 05 Arlen ness kp, but I doubt the owner would let you test ride. He's a very finicky person. I wish the demo truck would come by us. Me and some buddies are planning to take the Natchez trace down to Ridgeland next weekend to hit up the Vic dealer

Welcome from CT. If you go for a test ride, bring your wallet. I went for a test ride, and ended up leaving my GoldWing there :D

What kind of bike are you looking for? Bagger or cruiser? Brand new or used? I found a badass 2008 Vegas for sale in Tuscaloosa

I'm looking for a cross roads or cross country. I'm constantly riding from Alabama to North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida to see family so I need a bike that will be comfortable for 10-12 hour rides...

Wonder if they'll let me demo the vegas 8. I started a thread.

Dill,

Don't worry. I'm looking at bigger bikes like the cross roads and cross country. I'm 6'5 and 220 pounds plus I need a bike that is comfortable for trips all across the southeast (and coast to coast one day... on my bucket list). I'm looking at used bikes also. I can't afford 15-20k for a new one. I'm looking at slightly used bikes that are around 10k. If I see anything I'll be sure to post it on your thread.

The guy agreed to my price and going this weekend to get it. IDK! It is so purty and like calling my name... LOL!

On another note... I'm 5'11 and about 230+ lbs and ALL muscle. :D

Welcome from South Alabama.

I bought from Shoals Outdoor Sports in Tuscumbia. Not only do they allow test rides, they encourage them. Look at their site and give them a call. The sales and service teams were GREAT to work with. They went over the pre delivery checklist in a manner that left nothing to question. It was 2 years ago when I bought but im told they will still beat anyone's price. I had an issue with a cracked wind screen and after a little mis-communication on both our parts they sent me a new screen with a mail label for pre paid postage to send the bad screen back.

You've also got Max Motorsports up the road from you in Pelham. I've bought some accessories from them and they gave good discounts. At the time, they had A LOT of accessories in stock. They seemed like good guys in the parts department. Can't speak to the res of the staff. They do have a Dyno in house.

Creek,

I've heard good things about Shoals Outdoor Sports. They might be the place where I finally get to test ride. I did not know about Max Motorsports. Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to stop by and see them.

Dill, yeah the one in Ridgeland is Got Gear Motorsports. Congrats on the buy, let's see some pics when you get it

Creek, I've heard that Shoals is a great place to deal with. I knew a guy that bought his boardwalk from them even though his uncle works at Got Gear! Ha!

Geo Biker, I live in Tuscumbia about 2 miles from Shoals Outdoor Sports, they gave me a thousand more for my harley than any harley shop in a 150 mile radius, and they gave me a great deal on a new 2013 Cross Country Tour about a year and a half ago. They will put you on one for a test ride, and like someone said, plan on trading because you will! Bring your title or your loan info. Heck, call me and I will go with you to make sure they don't feed you a line of bull, ( which they won't).
You will definetly want the tour for the traveling your talking about, then around town, just take the trunk off, it only takes 5 minutes.
Being from T-Town, I'm going to assume that you are a Bama fan, you need to see my bike, I had a guy do hydrographic dipping on my dash and trunk speaker pods in the Houndstooth design, its not that way in my sig but I put pics on the show off page, look for them, or better yet, get in touch with me for a personal look.
As far as being comfortable, I just got back from a 3 day, 1400 mile ride, and felt comfortable the whole time. PM me, I don't mind helping you and showing you all I know about these bikes.
P.S., I was just at the dealer last week before my trip and they had a two tone blue and silver CCT with 4 miles for $17,799, ad tag said $316-$326/month payment, suggested retail was $23,099, savings of $5,300

Bama,

Roll Tide! I'm an Alabama alum. actually. Cant wait for the football season to start.

Anyway, I'm hearing great things about Shoals Outdoor Sports. As soon as I get a free weekend, I'll have to travel up there to test ride a bike. Then I'll have to sell the car to buy the bike.

I'm trying to decide if I want the fairing or not. If so, I'll get a cross country, if not then cross roads. I've just never owned a bike with a fairing. The radio would be another plus. I've always wanted a radio to listen to. I just need to test ride the bike to make sure I like it...

I used to think that a fairing, radio, even windshield was too much like a car and not a motorcycle. Then I started making long trips and now I see how helpful and nice those options would be.

Welcome from Helena, Al. Dn'even think about buying a scooter until you talk with the guys at MAX Motorsports in Pelham. Only about 50-55 miles from "T" Town, which happens to be my hometown as well. Chris, Tommy, or Robby will treat you right and they have an outstanding, and compentant, svc. dept.

ROLL TIDE!

So I've learned a few things as I've been looking around... I'm leaning more towards the Cross country instead of the cross roads. The cross country fairing and radio are what are winning me over.

First, I don't want to buy a pre-2011 victory because they had a transmission problem? What was wrong with the pre-2011 trannys?

second, some people complain about the paint, but others seem to love theirs. Is this a common proplem or people just nit picking?

Third, is there a problem with the clutch cable failing on these bikes? I've read somewhere that they fail a lot, but mainly on older bikes. Seems to me that as a bike gets older the clutch cable would be more likely to fail? Does anyone know anything else on this?

Thanks guys! I'm test riding next weekend as long as the weather lets me.
