Hi, my name is Paul... New to the forum and soon to be the owner of a 2014 Cross Contry. Should take delivery Saturday 4/12.

My first street bike was a 1999 Kawasaki KLR650... Rode that until 2003 when I picked up a 2003 Kawasaki Mean Streak. Absolutely loved both bikes and regret selling them... I sold the Mean Streak about 3 years ago after being t-boned in my full size truck by a lady "that didn't see me". It spooked me enough that I lost the desire to ride. I putted around the neighborhood on it for a while, but ultimately felt it was a waste to have it just sitting. Fast forward to recent months... Did a Victory Demo Day ride and developed an itch that needs to be scratched... So this past Monday I ordered a Silver Cross Country and will be back on the road again soon!

In the mean time I've been riding my Kawi KX450 at local motocross tracks. It has filled the void nicely, but not completely.

So it's pretty apparent that I'm a Kawasaki guy... Have been since I saw Jeff Ward racing a KX when I was a kid. So, as I was looking at a new cruiser/bagger I had to consider the Vaquero. I was fortunate enough to get to ride both the Vaquero and the XC back to back at my dealer. The XC won hands down! I rode the XC first and really liked it... Then rode the Vaquero right after... I couldn't wait to get off of the Vaquero and back on the XC! I'm not knocking the Vaquero, it simply didn't measure up. First and foremost it didn't fit my large frame ergonomically, floorboards were too short, bars too close, etc... And it simply was not nearly as smooth as the XC. I'm sure I could mod the Vaquero to fit me, but for essentially the same price, the XC fit me out of the crate and really just wowed me... Pretty much sold itself...

So that's me... Look forward to learning and eventually contributing to the forum!

Thanks for the welcome!

Bit of a delay in getting my XC... Won't be delivered to the dealer until Monday now... So I won't get it until mid-week next week... Bummer, but not much I can do...

I'll probably go in this weekend and get the paperwork out of the way so I don't have to fool with it when I pick it up...

On that note, I really like the dealer I'm working with, I've purchased a number of vehicles from them (3 ATV's, 2 bikes for my daughter, KX450, etc...), never questioned the deal. In this instance I got a bit of an uneasy feeling. I am pretty sure there isn't a huge margin on bikes, and probably not the hold back like a car dealer would have, but I feel like the sales manager is trying to pull a fast one. He quoted me a price $1K under MSRP, took off prep and freight... Which I thought was fair on a current year model that had to be ordered. So talking to him yesterday I questioned if that $1K was the rebate Victory is offering and if he's just selling for MSRP and not really giving the "deal" he said it was. He claimed he knew nothing about a rebate... So I pointed him to the Victory website... Stumble/stammer, he needs to call me back. Calls back and says it's only a $500 rebate... I pointed again to the website where it's clearly $1K... Oh, oh... That must be the tour that is $500... ( this is all over the phone). So he reworks the OTD supposedly taking into account the rebate... Yet somehow the OTD is only $400 less than where it was before the rebate... I questioned how that could be... He says... "That's the deal on this bike"...

Hopefully we have a communication error since this was over the phone, but sure feels like some games a being played. Hard to say not being able to see the numbers on paper in person... I know they need to make money, so I'm not asking them to give it away, but I do expect them to be up front on the whole deal. Guess I'll find out tomorrow... Hopefully I'm just paranoid... :)

Welcome to the forum. If you suspect they are playing with you, make sure you go over the calculations they made. Is it possible the $1000 vs. $400 is due to sales tax in terms of OTD prices?

Thanks Oldman!

We squared things up yesterday... Not sure I totally believe the explanation but in the end I think I got a fair deal, which is all I really wanted. They even threw in a gift card for a couple hundred $' s for accessories or whatever.

Now I just have to wait for the bike to arrive! cheers

Welcome to the board, Paul. My first two bikes were Kawasakis, a 900 Custom and a Nomad. Bought them both from Sammy White's Kawasaki City and I can't say enough good things about the staff in Irving.

I am digging my new XCT now. I got it at Freedom Powersports in Hurst and, so far, they've been great to deal with. Hope you enjoy your new scoot and maybe we'll run into each other (not literally!) some day.

My dealer is getting an ultimate customer service test right now. I've dealt with them in the past and made a point to make the drive twice as far as the local Victory dealer out of loyalty. Had a bit of a mishap yesterday that was a costly and unfortunate mistake... Ball is bouncing in their court. Hopefully they don't make me regret my loyalty...

Thanks Scotty...

Just got off the phone and they are taking care of things without issue... huge relief for me for sure. They've retained a loyal customer and will be wholeheartedly endorsed by me moreso than I have in the past. thumb up thumb up thumb up

I'm not far from you Scotty... once I get my bike back and get a little time on her we can do some riding! cheers
