Would like to introduce myself. I'm a new victory owner and enjoy every second of it. I have a 06 Victory Vegas and with a few modifications will call it my primary for a while. I work for several counties woo woo'n emergency response so It takes the edge clean off.

Now for the bad. I put about 400 miles on the bike last weekend and my 2nd gear is completely out. shifting is fine, but in the gear it's self..can't handle any throttle. It grinds all over the place once any torque is put on it.

I can shift out of second to clean and clear gears all day but second is smoked. My temporary fix is going from 1st to 3rd and I hattteee it. It's like being served half a beer.

My question is to replace 2nd are we talking a full engine tear down. Splitting the block and all that crazyness to change out 2nd?

Anyone have this problem before? If so what was the damage? What overall service price is a ballpark so I can save myself from getting overpriced and under worked.

Lastly, Since the engine will be out. Is there anything you guys recommend I take advantage of while the engine is out? any mods or additions that in any other time would be clear to impossible without engine disassembly?

Once again guys, you all are awesome. It's great to see others who share my same joy on these bikes. I'll be posting pictures as I individualize my Vegas. so far all I have is one. It's the first picture taken as I ride the bike away for the first time.

Cheers guys. Take care

there are a few motors on ebay that might be cheaper.
If you go for it do cams on re install
Maybe trade in

I only had the bike for a month. most of the guys locally are quoting me at about a grand to fix. Not as bad as I thought but we will see. They are diving into it late next week. I'm crossing my fingers for it not going above 1500 bucks. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check out cams. The guy working on it is the best motorcycle performance guy in south east Texas. Maybe he'll hook me up *optimism*

Cams are not that expensive ($500) - the labor to get them installed is, since it involves deep diving into the motor. You should take advantage of this opportunity, as it's been suggested.
