Turns out I wanted to post something and missed the instructions about posting twice to "New Member," etc.

So, please let me introduce myself. I'm Nuke. I started riding in 1976, while I was in the submarine service. Nuke is because I used to have a road name of "Nuc," related to having been in naval nuclear propulsion and then staying in the industry after I got out. In Navy parlance, a Nuke is a weapon and a Nuc is a person, but when I moved back west, it became "nuck" and I got so tired of the corrections that I gave up. So, I'm Nuke.

First bike, KZ400, then a series of others over the years just to tool around on. With the chance in 2006 to replace my 1981 Suzuki GS650 with a 2000 V92, I made the transition to a real cruiser, American made, never looked back.

However, a bit of advice - don't trust Polaris Industries, and don't be the first to try out a new manufacturer/model. I love the bike, but it's more like the way a Triumph owner loves his bike. I have had to replace parts that shouldn't have to be replaced, and on a budget. Particularly annoying is when something like a brake line goes south, and the Victory dealer tells me "Sorry, we just don't make that any more. Maybe if you can give me a week or so, I'll see if I can find a used one from another dealer, but I can't give you a break on the price for new because they're so hard to find." REALLY?

If the dealer can't find something for your 1999 or 2000, it's probably a Ducati part, but don't hold your breath finding a cross-reference.

Okay, rant over. I STILL love it enough that I just bought a 2008 Vegas 8-Ball. That way I'll have something reliable while I play with the V92. When I had to have the transmission replaced, the dealer (one of the good ones - Victory of Southern Maryland) told me that for an extra $800 he'd put new pistons and cams in it with no extra labor. So now it's the 100 Ci at 11.5-1 compression ratio. Hot, but hell on the starter, which I now have to rebuild or replace at just 40,000 miles. Having said that, it's a small price to pay for the extra power, especially when I have my wife on the back. I am NOT a little guy.

How to get permission post?

This is Nuke. I introduced myself as a new member to this forum, which I've already found very useful. Sorry if I bothered anyone by saying mean things about Polaris Industries, I just had some bad experiences with their red tape. Some dealers are obviously better than others, but working with corporate HQ has only recently gotten better.

As I understand the rules, one must make two posts to the new member forum in order to get permission to post other threads. So, this is a continuation of my original introduction.

I like the format, don't like the posts where someone was selling something through classifieds, got a low-ball offer, called it a low-ball offer, and got flamed. Okay, so the guy who wanted something cheap was going to have to come up with a better offer.

General question - is that the kind of thing where it's left up to the moderators, or are others invited to join in and turn the flame around? I would have expected that kind of thing to be a private message rather than a public message, and it looked really odd. It's not like this is a politics forum where the slightest disagreement results in offers to let you die for disagreeing.

Freedom of speech is highly valued here. I will leave it at that. ;)

Uh, you're still new. You have not seen our political threads, or our oil threads, or our tire threads, or our fuel controller threads...
