Just ordered a new progressive rear shock for my Hammer (really wanted the penske one as that has height adjustment which would give me some more ground clearance and I am fed up grounding foot pegs but JC motors are doing a sale on the pro one and the pen job is twice the price or more ouch) has anyone changed their shock and is it an easy job looks very crowded in their.

New shock

I got the 465 Series for my 08 Vegas. The install was done with myself and friend who had a bike lift. It took about 2 hours. It wasn't real complicated. You will need to use a lift under the bike to take the weight off the rear suspension. Also the linkage must be removed to get the new shock in place. I assume your bike may be a little different. I had a Hammer for 2 years and I know you will feel the difference with the new shock.:D

Hey there Surly. When you get that bad boy in can you let us know how you like it? I'm contemplating this mod myself.

Will do just have to wait for it to arrive about 4 weeks I think already ordered a second small platform lift so I can lift the whole bike with fine adjustment to hopefully make the swap as easy as possible not really bothered about comfort just want to improve my Hammers already surprisingly good handling I once swapped the stock shocks on a Rocket 111 for some fancy nitrogen filled ones and it transformed the bike.
If you are going for this JC motors are doing a sale at the moment so it might be an idea to buy now from what I have read on the internet I am confident of a good resultthumb up

Shock arrived today and I don't know if I should put it in my bike or hang it on the wall its so well made and finished its a work of art luckily I love my Hammer and will be up at 6 AM tomorrow morning to fit it.
It comes with simple basic explanations on sag and rebound which will be useful as I am simple and basic myself.:crzy:

Did you get long or short version? My 11 is supposed to be short but if I get better ride and handling from long without raising the seat too much would go that way, easy install would be nice also.

Got the long one as I understood it thats standard fitted it this morning two hour job used two small platform lifts one under the front peg mounts for stability and one under the back of the engine easy job just takes time and packed the linkages with expensive silkolene grease set the sag to instructions left rebound where Pro put it on riding it I found it a big improvement on comfort my arse is no longer getting hammered but I now have a problem as footpegs are getting ground up all the time due to better handling if its comfort you want this will suit you very well but if I was doing this again I would look at the Penske shock as that has height adjustment which would give me some ground clearance as it is I will wait for the Judge to come to my dealers as the pegs on that look like they might give me some clearance I know the bike is a cruiser and I should be riding it like one but as Victory has done the math to give us a bike that actually handles it seems rude not to use it accordingly even if I should know better at 60:crzy:
**** that was a long post
