On June 30th I purchased a 2012 CrossRoads ( black ). The only upgrades I added at purchase were the cruise control and the bigger better bags. Though stock at this moment, it won't be that way long. I already ordered a Loydz Fuel Controller and Big Honker slip ons.
One problem I am having is finding a backrest and luggage rack at a decent price. Before I do that, I will ask a question of the Forum. To those who are riding a CrossCountry or Roads, how many find the stock seat adequate? Of those switching out seats, what seat is recommended? I always appreciate your help

Thank You

i have had a 12 XR for about a month now. I put on the 2" pullback bars, I had ordered the victory riders backrest but it always was on back ordered so I got my money back and ordered a utopia backrest.
I bought an airhawke2 air cushon which I like so far on the standard seat.
By the way my seat is starting to rip from the seams between rider and passenger. Called my dealer and send him pictures and he said he had to send them and contact victory to see what they want to do. So we'll see what happens. Otherwise everything else is stock. I have the red sunset. Ride Safe

I have an Ultimate seat on order for my 2012 CRLE, but have not received it yet so can't comment on comfort. I will tell you that the folks at Ultimate are A+ and very good to deal with.
Good Luck

Cruise control is standard on the 2012 CrossRoads:confused:

As for seats, I don't really like mine but chioces at this time is very limited.

I have a Cross Country Tour with the heated seated that comes stock on it. Last October, I rode 600 miles to Florida and 600 miles back. The seat was good for me, with a Utopia rider's backrest installed. I am 6'1" 190 pounds with a 34 inch inseam, and I rode solo.

Since that time, I experienced a severe back problem and had spinal fusion surgery. I am riding again, but only short commutes, so far. I don't know whether I will need a special seat for long distance riding from now on, but I am still quite comfortable on my short commutes.

Since you ordered the FC and mufflers you should go ahead and get a high flow air filter and plan on removing the sound gasket under the tank when you change it out for best results since you are doing the Stage 1 anyway. Might as well go the extra inch and complete it. Maybe think about doing the cams at a later time for around $540 if you can do it yourself.

The stock seat seems to go both ways for different people. Some find it just fine and others; not so much.

I went with the Ultimate seat and I'm extremely happy with it so far. Just rode 700+ miles last weekend and it did great. I'd recommend getting the riders backrest to go with it for "ultimate" comfort. They have a return policy if you don't like it as long as no personal touches are done to the seat. I'm currently using the Utopia backrest with it but it doesn't fit right. I may see if I can modify the post on it or make a new one so I don't have to buy another rider backrest but that's a story for another time.

For passenger backrests there really isn't a lot of choice when using the stock seat and that's the Victory backrest made by Kuryakyn but ordered through Victory. Victory also has a luggage rack made by Kury but I'd go with one of our fantastic vendors for this like cycleopsusa.com. Excellent quality and about the same price as Victory. He also has a guy who does excellent seat alterations but you have to send the seat to them, the work is normally done under 7 days, and then the seat is sent back. From where I live; that's a 3 week turnaround. It would be fine for those who put their bikes away in the Winter.

I'm surprised the cruise control is an option for '12. They were stock on the 11's and an option on the 10's. They keep going back and forth with that for some reason it seems.

I have a 2011 Sunset Red Crossroads. I replaced the stock bars with a set of stock Cross Country Bars that I purchased from a CC owner that put the 2" pullbacks on his bike. I also just installed a GrassHopper back rest. I really like it and the price is nice. I have a Victory Passenger backrest and windshield i got with a special 1000 gift offer on accessories from victory when I bought the bike
