I am looking at purchasing a 2000 sc, the bike has roughly 9k miles on it and when it's in neutral there is a major rattle in the primary. I was afraid to test drive the bike due to the noise but the owner (who was very honest and upfront with everything about the bike) stated the bike rode out fine. The noise is always audible in neutral but goes away when engaged. He stated it did slip out of gear from time to time between 2nd/3rd. Obviously it has to be fixed, but any idea if it's something I should entertain? I did search prior to posting and see there are some issues with the transmission, but I am not sure this is related.
Thanks for your help in advance!

The problem you are describing is the victory transmission failure. The upgrade kit is approximately $1500 and the cost to install varies but you are looking at least 1100 to install. and that does not address some other problems in the early hammer engine. The other option is to replace the hammer engine with a freedom engine from 2002 to 2005 those years are direct bolt ins. and address all the issues. you would need a few additional parts. I had the same problem with my sc. I went with the freedom upgrade picked the engine up for 1100 and the speed sensor and new voltage regulator from ebay for less then 200. I needed a few dealer only parts and thottle body boots for less then 100. I did all the labor myself. I did need to take to dealer to fine tune the mapping and have new tires installed. final cost for the entire project approximately 2000.

Bill- thanks for the response. Is there a howto or parts list on doing the freedom upgrade? thanks!
It's pretty straightforward; you'll have to mix & match fitting for the oil lines, as well as deal with the relocated speedo pickup. You'll need the Vic speedometer adapter (electronic black box, interfaces the Freedom pickup with the original speedometer), probably a few other items, but nothing major - mounting points are all the same, just a few incidentals to see to.

I'd get copies of the service manuals & parts listings for your SC as well as an '03-'05 Vic; by cross-referencing, you'll be able to work it all out.

I have a 2000 SC and would like to do the Freedom swap as well. Other than the dealer I can't seem to locate a service manual for the SC. If someone has one to sell please contact me.
