Well; I guess my days of letting friends ride little blue, my Kingpin, are officially over.

The other day I let a buddy who hadn't ridden in a few years but convinced me he knew what he was doing - ride the KP.

He did fine until we were a block from home. Taking a left at an intersection he swung wide and hit the curb. Boom. Down he went. He did his level best to beat up that concrete sidewalk with his forehead but the sidewalk won and blood went everywhere. Poor guy looks like he went up against Tyson and lost big time. Plus he can't be much over 100 lbs soaking wet. Add a broken clavicle to the mix and now he will have to use his non dominate hand to clean the pipes from time to time when he isn't out of it on the pain meds.

I kept asking him how the bike felt to him during the day and if it was like riding, well, a bicycle. He kept saying he was getting used to it. I guess the sun had an effect on the accident because he said it blinded him for a second in the turn. I had just gone through the same turn a few seconds before him with no trouble but then I wasn't looking at the sun. I was looking where I was going.

Little Blue is rideable but does have some injuries too. The worst of it is a big dent on top of the front fender. The left mirror is broken. The mufflers have a scrape or two. The windshield is shot due to some scraping on lower right side where it hit but that's about it. I figure around $700 will have it back to pre-accident condition. Oh; and I had to spend $127 to get it out of jail (impound).

Since the front fender will need repair and new paint and because it would be hard to match the custom Victory paint; I'm going to paint it another color. Probably go with exactly the same color Big Blue is. Solid Imperial Blue. Maybe add some silver in some way or another. I took some pics but the lens had a smudge on it. I will get some more before getting into it.

Years ago when I had my favorite Harley (69' Shovel) I had it custom painted. I might see if I can get it done similar to it. I will miss the tribal flame paint job. The ladies all love it. Even though I call the KP little blue; it's really purple and silver.

All good things must come to an end I guess and my willingness to let others ride one of my bikes is one of them.

I never realized it before but in looking at these two pics; I see little blue has been transforming into a clone of the 69' Shovel a little at a time over the last few years. I guess I know what I like and the style that works for me personally. Interesting. Soonish; the transformation will be even more complete.

Sorry to hear this Bbob , that is one beautiful pin . Back in '88 or so I let a buddy take my FZR600 "down the street and back" , an hour later I was like "where the **** is this guy"? Sure enough he came up the street pushing my bike . Enough said .:(

Yeah. It's a drag but it can be fixed. I'm more worried about my friend right now. I'm sure he will chip in and help with the repair costs as he can. He will have a hefty bill coming to pay for the ambulance, ER, and 1 day stay in the hospital. Even with Medicare; I bet it will be over $4k out of pocket.

I'm hoping he can get off the pain meds in a few days. He's really out of it right now. Can't really have a coherent conversation with him right now. Thankfully I was able to talk with him on the phone the next day when he was in the hospital and before they sent him home with the pain meds.

Not that there's ever a good time for something like this but this past week my gas furnace went out and was condemned so between a new one with split AC system and labor I'm out over $4k. The crappy Walmart battery went dead in my car the other day so there went $125 for a new Interstate battery. Needed to resupply leather so I took advantage of a sale but still spent a pretty penny. My newest dog is being an escape artist so funds have to go into an electric wire to keep him from digging under the fence and of course the $127 to get the bike out of impound and whatever it costs to make the bike right again. Makes for an expensive month and it's only the 5th of Dec.

I guess I better call the Whaaambulance. :D

Sorry about the hassles Bob, sometimes life throws you a curve just to see if you can hit it. Hope your friend heals up soon and well. If you ever get down to Phoenix holler, like to meet up for coffee, tea, Coke, Pepsi, etc, etc. I was whining because mine is in for a bad seal and I have a Patriot Guard mission today and can't go. Your problems put it into perspective.

Yeah. The police will do that here sometimes. They even put a 30 day hold on it but a nice lady at the sheriffs office was able to convince the sheriff in charge to let it go immediately or it would have been there for 30 days and taken $700 to get out.

Yes. He has what they call 'Medicare' but it only covers 80% of the bill. We don't have the kind of health care system as AU and Europe along with some other countries. Very few doctors would be willing to work at the same pay as countries that have common or single payer health care. America is known for having some of the very best care in the world. It's because doctors can make a lot of money here. Particularly specialists. That's the short version of why anyway.

You looked where you wanted to go, he looked at that curb. Ma Nature is a tough teacher: She gives you the test first, then the lesson. Never let others use you motorcycle, wife, toothbrush, credit card and checking account. Bad things can happen.

Just spoke with Bob, his name is Bob too, and he sounds much better. We will meet up later today and shoot the breeze about stuff.

Thanks for all the kind words and well wishes. I will pass them along to the other Bob.

Yeah, that 69' was a great bike, and I still miss it. Really regret selling it to this day. I don't miss the maintenance which was about 1 hour for every hour I rode it. It was the last year of the Pan lower with the Shovel top end. A generator motor but surprisingly worked pretty well. Much better than the Pan I had before it that seemed like I was always replacing a regulator and generator. I had to do it in pairs because if one was bad it would make the other go bad.

All I got to say is that your generator Shovel was bad ass!!
Thanks Kevin! Coming from you that really means something.

On another note; I have a bad feeling about Bob. He seems to be acting like a liberal democrat and trying to find someone to blame his **** up on. This is not the same person who wanted to ride the bike the other day.

I let him know that I would split the costs of repairing the bike and getting it out of impound just so we could move on past this. I dunno. Maybe the meds are messing with his mind or something but he clearly is looking for someone else to blame this accident on even though it was a single person accident.

I'm starting to get a bad feeling about this. In my world friends don't treat friends like how this one is treating me. Something feels really off. I'm starting to think I should distance myself from him for now until I see what he is going to do. Hopefully he will do the right thing but one never really knows how others will react to a trauma I suppose.

No good deed goes unpunished. How sad that we are now living in a world where people who acted like a friend turn around and start acting like they want to screw you over.

What say you my online friends? I could use a bit of friendly advice.

Please leave out any comment about how you would never let someone ride you bike or some such thing. That's water under the bridge at this point and that lesson has been learned.

Money and friends don't always mix is my only advise. If you have to be a prick to him to get him to help pay, it might hurt the friendship.

This is spot on. He turned, and stared at that curb.

And a true friend would pay for ALL the damages....I know I would, and I only got to know you briefly.

So do you think I should just leave it up to him from this point forward? I really don't want to lose him as a friend but I also don't want to get screwed over either.

Howabout if I ask him when he thinks he can make good on the funds and go from there? Anyone can say they will make good but money talks and bullshit walks as they say.

I guess I may just find out if this friend is really a friend or not. It makes me sad to think I would lose a friend over something like this. Real friends don't screw over friends. Then again; I'm old school so who knows what people are like now.

When accident happen and money is involved for guys, most times the wives are "guiding" too pay less, or cheap .... (Buying friends house or car, etc)

Maybe it would be a solution just to confront him with all the bills and ask HIM what his plan is ?

Isn't it amazing how life surprises you in the most unexpected ways ..

Distance is good .... Change is good in some cases ..

It is never a easy solution ..
