No you pigs!....its not about what you think. ;)
What size is the nut under the right side panel that holds in the schrader(air) valve for the XC's rear shock adjustment?

17MM if I recall correctly , and I think I do .

BTW, for anyone messing with side covers, and wanting them to stay in place, I've done the following changes to them, unrelated to any side-cover mods:

1) I replaced the grommets after a couple years. One was completely missing. They're about a buck each.

2) For just ONE barb on each side -- the upper-forward one -- I added heat shrink tubing (3/8", and point the heat gun away from the bulk of the plastic). This was per a suggestion by thumbgone back in 2014 (see http://www.victoryforums.com/35-victory-general-discussion/78906-making-side-covers-stay.html ) and has worked extremely well.

When I have some free time, I'll add that info to the relocation write-up. In the meantime, here's a pic of the heat-shrink on my bike:

Thanks Bill....I knew it wasn't a 17mm because my set has up to 19mm and it wouldn't fit. I have to purchase a socket to fit so I can do the re-route and I want to get the correct size. I'll take your advice on the side panel also, since I'm going to route through the panel similar to what you did.


MAGS.....I'm never taking your advice again and that thingy you told me about woman...it was completely wrong too :eek :ltr:

If you're going through the side panel AND you want to flush-mount a Schrader valve the way I did, you'll need that special tap that's the equivalent of the OUTSIDE threads of a Schrader valve. The bad news is that that tap is rare and expensive, and I just did a quick search and I can't find mine. I'll have to look better sometime.

(Yeah, expensive, but I had a burr up my ass when I was doing that project, and I'm OCD, and that's how I wanted to do that. Sometimes I'm weird.)

OTOH, if you just want to have the end of an extension hose (with built-in Schrader valve at that end) poking through a drilled opening in the side cover, that would be easier, would probably look fine, and you wouldn't have to tap anything. That would probably make more sense. If you look at a pic of the extension hose I bought for the project -- and there are many other similar ones -- you would just need to make that end shorter, so it wouldn't stick out so far. I made it shorter, too, even though it's behind the side cover, just because it was so long. I just used a hacksaw.

I have the hardware I need(minus a 22mm socket) to do the job, I just need to finalize where I want the fill valve.
