Hey Gang

I have a new to me 2011 Ness XC that has had a tall dark tint windsheild installed, problem is the windshield is too tall for me; when driving at night I cannot see the road unless I stretch to see over it. It also has sharp corners where the XC has a nice smooth look to it. Hoping someone out there might be kind enough to take the time to trace their OEM take off and put the template in the mail to me, I would really appreciate it. Thanks Dez

I would gladly do that for you.

BUT How tall is your WS?

Flip or No Flip?
Have you actually ridden an XC with a stock WS?

I have an '11 XC and with the right mods I have the buffeting down very well. It took a +2" Gust. Flip WS and some homemade lowers. I'm 6'0 tall with 32" inseam and I am now happy with the ride.

My suggestion would be to try and find a cheap one that someone will part with and try it first.

I understand you can't see with the height and smoke tint but if you went to the stock height you may be disappointed to.
Just giving you something to think about.
PM me if you would like the templet. I'll make one out of paper with holes etc that you could lay over if you really want to try this.

I have my stock windshield that I replaced on my 11 xc with a gustaffson +2 also. If you would like to try the stock windshield before you cut yours I would be willing to send you mine to try. All you would have to do is pay for the shipping. If you don't use it then just ship it back to me.

I am your average height male 5' 9" with a 30" inseam. Previously owned 2x HD's (Glide & King) and had cut both shields down to proper height (i.e. level just under the nose when in normal riding position)...my Glide had a red semi transparent shield, cut to that height there was little if any buffering and easy to see over at night.

Suspect the previous owner either cut the shield down himself or had it done, but they did not maintain the OEM arc so it has sharp corners instead of a smooth arc.

My intent is to cut the dark no flip shield down to nose height using and continueing the OEM arc (same principal I used on the Glide).

Really appreciate the offer, and will PM you as well, and try to attach a pic. Dez

XC Windshield

Gang

There is a picture of my XC as the album cover for my photos on my profile...should give you an idea how high the shield is, if you look close you can see the sharp corner where the shield transitions from the horizontal to vertical oprtions.

Looks like it has been cut already. I would just see how much more needs cut off and follow the curve that is on it now-then just round the ends. Tape it,draw the line to cut off, jigsaw with a fine tooth blade ,then sand it. I cut some fork lowers that way. Just take your time.

Thank you. Really appreciate your offer, but I don't believe I will be taking it down to OEM height, is the reason we ride not for "the wind in your face"?...not the bugs, just the wind.

After I cut it down, if I find it still too high, I will certainly take you up on your offer to try the OEM before I cut it again.

Thanks again...enjoy the road buddy.

Dez,

After seeing the pic I understand a little more. I have the templet made. I would suggests starting at least 2' up on the sides from the fairing and use the templets curve I'm sending you. That would be approx a +2" for you. If you want to go lower an inch or so at a time you could. If you go with the curve ending in the corners of fairing your pretty much stock height. You've had other bikes and WS. You'll be fine.
Hopefully in the mail Wed around 1:00-2:00 pm
