I think I have been using the wrong K&N oil filter!

I have a KN-303 installed now. It is supposed to cross reference with Polaris filters.

I went to order another one on ebay and discovered that it should be a KN-198!

Have I any harm by using the wrong one??

As long as it threads on properly, and seals properly, you shouldn't have any issues. I personally prefer a longer filter for more volume, but I don't have any data to back up that claim, it's just what I like.

I'm sure its fine, as long as it wasn't leaking oil. The only difference is a slight diameter and length increase.

KN 198 VS N -303

Height 3.313 in (84 mm)
Code:
3.344 in (85 mm)
Outside Diameter 2.563 in (65 mm) 2.688 in (68 mm)
Thread Specification M20 x 1.5 M20 x 1.5
Weight 0.6 lb (0.2 kg) 0.6 lb (0.3 kg

No leaks.
Screws right on and fits like it would be the right one...
I was shocked to realize I'd been using the wrong one.

I'm using Z429 but there's at least one other size that fits ok.

You are correct. At least from everything I have researched, and just plain ole common sense. Longer filter means more media, so more filter area. A tick more oil, which aint no biggy and would be negligibly on really any extra cooling.

Not on Vic site, it's not a Victory product. I have a Bosch 32xx something on there now, and just bought a Bosch 3233 to replace it with. Was like $7 at autozone

K&N

FWIW The K&N-198 oil filter isn't made by K&N it's made by HI-FLO same number HF-198. Just doesn't have the nut on top, also about half the price.

I have the K&N on my bike now, but going to use the HI-FLO next.

Guys stop going to ebay for oil filters or spark plugs and air filters with out doing part number research. Lot of the sellers have done NO research whatsoever they go by what they were told.

Here is a few to choose from:
Motorcycle filters
•AC Delco PF2135
•AMSOil SMF103
•Carquest 85358
•AC Delco PF2135
•FRAM PH6017A
•Honda 15410-MCJ-000
•K&N KN-204. Metric nut on end for easy removal.
•NAPA Gold 1358
•Purolator ML16817. Imported, not made by Purolator.
•STP SMO 17
•WIX 51358

Recommended filters.
All have superior filtering.

VJ, you didn't watch that video before posting. View it and correct your list. There are very few on that list I'd recommend anyone use.

Seen a couple Honda ones on trade in bikes, found out the bike before the Vic was usually a VTX or a Goldwing and the owners had stocked up on filters and was just trying to use them up.

Hi all, i run a honda filter on my CCT

HAMP H1540-PLC-003 (6 U$D)

So I did a oil pressure test before

RedLine 15W40 & K&N filter (28 U$D) filter = 80/90 PSI

LIQUI MOLY 10W50 & HEMP filter = 80/90 PSI

Ride on brothers

K&N surly made in China, but maybe the HONDA filter made in Japan ?

Yeah, what the heck, if they fit and filter as good as what the OEM calls for; why not use them up. Seems like a waste to just let them sit on the shelf.

Heck I was digging through my stash of filters looking for a filter for the tractor when I found a Bosch Premium 3323 that went to an old Honda we had. I cross referenced that sucker and sure enough same as a Wix 51356/51358.
