X bikes have the upside down forks. Now I am being a bit lazy here, but I just moved and I do not feel like digging out the service manual to see the inner working of the upside down forks. I did change the fork oil once, low and behold it is time again. Seen something on here somewhere about some parts from "Race Tech" there parts are called "Gold Valve Emulators". They go inside the forks and help smooth out the ride, make the bumps not so harshe,etc. Watched a video on here, look slick,and I have also talked to people that have used them in there bikes. So as mentioned my forks are due for an oil change. Can we use these on our upsidedown forks, or do they come from the factory with them already. I know I will find my manual tomorrow and look for myself. But now is the time to install them if they work on our bikes, beings it is going to get some new oil.:nerd

You have a cartridge fork so no they won't work on your fork.
Emulators are to make a damper rod fork act similar to a cartridge fork which is what you already have.

If you want to make your cartridge fork to work better and be more responsive Race tech makes a product called a Gold Valve for them. It replaces part of the valving in the cartridge and further improves the performance of the fork. They make a bunch of other performance parts to tune and get the most from your fork or correct things you may not like about how it is presently set up. Give them a call and see what they have if your interested.


I recommended Racetech to Joseph on here when he had a problem with his rear shock last year partially because they are located right near him.
I've never had a single problem dealing with them ever.
When he called he was told by someone in sales that they didn't make a shock for his bike. Go figure.
I thought that was sort of weird especially cause I am hoping to buy a shock for my wifes XR from them down the road. So next time I ordered parts for one of my bikes I asked the guy in Tech about it. He told me Yes they build parts, forks and shocks for any motorcycle. Victories are not an exception. Joseph apparently got someone who was not very well trained when he called. I hope you don't have the same problem if you call.

If you should decide to call sales and get someone who doesn't understand that they do victory bikes, call back and select Technical assistance. I have always talked to Louie as he is usually the guy on the tech phone. He is sharp and will know what they have to offer you. I'm sure anyone else in tech is equally sharp.


Paul Thede the guy in the video and owner of RaceTech published a book recently.

I have the book and it's good. In there you find everything you want to know about suspension setup, forks, shocks etc.
There are also picture tutorials on how different forks and shocks come apart and go together. It paid for itself the first time I needed it.


But the emulators won't work in your fork. Your fork is already superior to what they are capable of if it's setup properly for the bike it is attached to. Unfortunately I don't know enough to make one of these cartridge forks work better, but they definitely do.

i know of a guy that let racetech guinea pig his cross country, the guy loves how it turned out.

go 50 thousand miles before changing fork oil.

i changed mine at 30,000, it was disgusting, i wouldnt suggest going longer unless the oil has been checked and changed once at least at the proper interval.

Thanks Joe. Will give them a call. To me the forks seem a bit stiff. Now I know the Cross Roads does not have that extra 20-lbs of a fairing like the Cross Country so I figure that may stiffen up the front end a bit. Also I weigh around 170+ lbs which maybe a little lighter than the average rider possibly. I will also talk to them about the rear shock, seems kind of ruff to me also. I have had the bike now for 33000+ miles and it seems to me even with the air out of rear shock to ride a little harsher than it use to. A side note I do run my tires at 40psi and I have had the seat recovered. Maybe it is the fact that I am a little past 20 now,ha, ha. :eek Thanks everybody for your comments.
