Hey all, live in south west Oklahoma and averaging about 20k miles a year on my scoots. I've been scanning through your site the last few days and been learning what I can about victories. I became interested in the cross country tour after seeing it online somewhere. Hoping to find something to compare it with the bike I have now! I currently ride a 2013 road glide custom, I've found several comparisons against ultras and street glides some road glides but I guess there isn't a whole lot of difference in those to mine huh?

The 14 HD has some nice things going for it.
Best thing is ride one and see. Great riders, but everyone had a preference to their motorcycles. Vic is behind on the gadgets, Indian is pretty farkel rich though. The Vic engines are very good, transmissions are solid but take a learning curve to shift quiet.

I actually just went and tested a 15' Ultra Limited last weekend. I think first and formost if you try a Vic you will notice how much larger it feels and how much more it lets you spread out. This is only based on my ride comparison to the Ultra. I have not ridden a Road Glide so can't speak to that. What I was impressed with was the torque and power of the HD. Personally I think you will find the Vic lacking some in that comparison. Most of that is in gearing and not actually in power. But I will say I thought the Ultra ran right up their with my Vic and you can see in my sig what I am running. I also noticed the HD was MUCH smoother at highway speed, again very impressed.
What I didn't like was that the HD seemd very small for me. I felt like I was sitting on top of it rather than a part of it the way I feel on the Vic. Again I think you will find the Vic feeling bigger. I also thought the HD was very cramped in foot space compared to the Vic. Storage goes to Vic, creature comforts certainly to HD. Fit/finish goes to HD, ease of maintainance goes to Vic. Cheap engine mods for HP goes to Vic.
All in all for me, if HD had the room the Vic does it would be a hard decision.
I guess this sounds more like my comparison of my XCT to the Ultra, but it gives you an idea of what maybe to expect. Ride a Vic, only you can decide if it is for you.

Oohrah, that's a long the line of what of what I was looking for. My buddies wife has a 15 cvo and ya obviously it's impressive with all the accessories. But for 40k I don't see the value or that drastic of a difference between her ultra cvo and a vic xct. It's really not that much faster than my rgc but it has more flashy stuff to it. All I care about it comfort and reliability for my long hauls, added power in town is a bonus. I've always loved my HDs but never been overly impressed with them. I know they're overpriced and antiquated tech hence why I'm considering the change. If vics can prove me they're the better man I'll be glad to get on board.

Sounds like to me you've already answered your own question. That last review was great and sounded extremely unbiased. I think the only way you will know for sure is to ride it. I have a hammer and while some will consider it a "bar hopper" it is still a undoubtedly reliable and good performing bike. Hopefully your decision works out the best for what you're looking for.

I think my main question would be if I fit comfortably on one. I feel a little stretched out on my rgc but that's mainly because the bars don't come back very far, the tour looks like they stretch back to the rider pretty far. Can't wait to ride one just kind of hard due to work schedule and the dealer is an hour away.

I don't know your body type/size. I am 6'2, 270 (not fat). I had to put the 2" pull back bars on mine to make it comfortable. I also changed seats. The stock bars or seat just didn't fit me. What I like most about the Vic is that you can ride with your feet in SO MANY positions, from stretched out, to almost jockey style. If you are wanting to stay with a twin then IMHO the Vic is a much better engine/trans combo and gains in that statement with ease of maintenance (one oil, one filter). Although like stated, I was very impressed with the HD engine/trans except for one thing and that may just be me. When I would come to stop it felt like it had a warped rotor...lol, but as I looked down I realized the bounce stop was in time with engine shake. I think you will like the "ride in" feel versus the "ride on" feel of the vic versus HD. But coming from an HD you may not notice as much as I did going to the HD.

Be mindful of the seat of the pants feel when you ride the Vic. It has good power and moves to speed very easy, but the seat of the pants is lacking and feels as if you aren't going anywhere. But again, that may have just been my impression as I came from a GL1800 Wing where any gear at any time was the right gear and seat of the pants was certainly not an issue....lol

Now if you are not overtly concerned with staying on a twin then let me point you in the direction of the GL1800. If you want smooth power, awsome reliability and ease of ownership there is no better for eating up miles. But that is a completely different bike.

You just need to go ride a Vic and see what you think. I rode the Ultra and although very impressed I will easily stay with the Vic primarily becasue the Ultra just didn't fit me. I am going to ride the Indian Roadmaster and see how it feels (will write that up once I ride it) and I came from a Gl1800 (have written my thoughts and comparisons on it and the XCT already). Keep us infomred as to what you determine even if it means you don't get a Vic. I know for one I enjoy hearing why people DON'T like something as much as I enjoy hearing why the DO.

Funny, I just read on the RG forums about pretty much the same comparison the other night. I have ridden an RG very briefly and took a Breakout for a spin a month ago. So engine for engine I don't see where people think the Harley is better on the low end. Maybe it is but I didn't feel it. I am only 5'7" and some change about 255lbs(lots of powerlifting.) and I feel more comfortable on the Cross Country. I don't think it feels like a stretch at all. I have my shift and brake levers set on the middle position. My mother's husband came through last week, he rides a CVO Street Glide, took my bike for a spin and liked it. He has been looking at them since seeing a bunch in Sturgis. I like Harleys well enough but, hate the dealerships. But like was stated above, take one for a spin. What is right for me may not be right for you...Good luck on your decision but, I don't really think you would go wrong with either bike.

I'm a big guy 6.1 240lbs the XCT will serve you well. In the beginning I hated a few things about mine but they were easy to change. Exhaust, bars, tires etc. Cosmetics. I've never been on a bike like this XCT. its big and comfortable. I can stretch out my legs all I want on this bike

6'5" and my wife is 6'2". we fit on my XC and still have room to move.

I gotta say I'm real impressed that this hasn't become a brand war, I appreciate that as well because I love my bike but feel I could be missing out on something.

I'm 5'10 slim athletic build, I feel a little stretched out on my glide to reach the bars. Pictures look like the bars on the xct come back further which would be fantastic. Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to make it to a dealer to sit on one and ride it. Looking like I'll be going out to a rig though. You guys/gals have done a fantastic job helping me learn and giving me good solid information about the bikes. Even if I don't end up with a victory for a while or ever I think I'll stick around these forums yall are good people

lol, im on the rig now. im gonna warn you, my brother has a 2010 road king, and since i let him ride mine he likes to try and "take care of it for you while you're at work. you know it just sitting there for 2 weeks will kill the battery and is bad for the motor(yes i have a battery tender, and a brain)". like they say, ride one and you'll own one. good luck man, and stay safe in the patch :D

Devil Dog... Hello from a former fellow rig hand. I am still involved in the drilling of wells but I do it from a desk now. I sell drilling & completions fluids. I debated hard between the 2015 RG and my 2014 XC. In the end the big Vic won for the following reasons.

- Superior handling
- engine performance
- cost
- uniqueness ( there are thousands of RG's with big wheels and stereos)
- reliability

These are things I like about about HD.

- easily attainable parts
- great network of dealers
- good selection of custom/aftermarket goodies
- fit and finish is second to none

Hey, rig guys. And to think you ride Vics....LOL I aint a rig guy, but I am a fire fighting instructor for offshore guys and Maratime forces so I feel a little bond with them...LOL

Yes as I told devildog in a IM, I am always fearful to give an "unbiased" opinion on here or any brand forum as it usually turns ugly. Anyone that knows me knows I don't care what you ride and I have no brand loyalty. I am an MSF instructor and see all kinds of attitudes on two wheels. I just want to ride and know that my hard earned dollars were well spent. So with that, thank you all for letting this thread remain in tact. It is always good to be able to share information with others about other things. Personally I think anyone that really wants to ride should be interested in whatever is out there, new technologies and advancements in engineering. I also think that if we could actually design a bike we would have a combination of many different bike brands as each has good and bad aspects. cheers

Well last night I made the switch! Got a blue 2014 Cross Country Tour, leaving the dealers and riding to meet up with my brothers blew my mind at how much superior this machine is to my road glide custom that I traded in. And not just in a few ways but in every single possible way that I could find. I knew these things were fast but I didn't realize how fast till they were all getting on it after a red light and I had to slow down cause I was over taking them! I can't see a single reason why I will every go back to hd now, and I know it sounds like it but I'm not knocking on the had brand, just had my eyes opened up :)

+1 what LostinTexas said... Add a quarter turn throttle ring and timing wheel from Lloydz Motorworx and it will blow your mind!
