I may have the opportunity to buy a set of black tri-ovals for $200 shipped. Problem is, the paint is flaking off of the tip. I had a thought of painting them with a VHT blue. Opinions on how painted pipes would look? Can someone talk me out of this?

If you are painting them then I would say do it. You can always paint them to black again :) I tested muffler paint schemes on my old bike, the third time was the best choice.

Not sure what your thoughts on leaving it Black and paint it with Blue tips?

That was one of my ideas, since it's just the tips that are damaged...

Go for the paint! I've always had bad luck painting things that get hot (calipers, stoves) but you can always repaint them if they flake or burn off.

Yeah go ahead and paint em, what's the worst that can happen?
Mask off whatever you don't want paint on and try not to inhale the fumes.
Bake it on in stages not one endless ride.
Oh and shake the can well.:grin

Best bet is try looking for a high heat paint (not sure if VHT is or not, if so ignore this post). I did my old exhaust on my last bike with bbq/wood stove paint. Looked mint.
