While waiting for my D&Ds to arrive, I started looking into getting the PCV for my bike along with the high-flow air filter from Victory (since K&N and S&S are too shy to step up to the plate). Only other mods are removed air filter lip and disconnected O² sensors.

How do I go about getting the PCV map that will fit my setup? Please advise.

Well, you probably have two options.

1. Go get it dyno-tuned and have a custom map made. This should cost about $100-200. Had my Warrior tuned like this.

2. Buy the Autotune module. Use a base map and allow it to custom tune your bike in real time. This is the way I would go, because in theory it should be able to optimize your bike in all conditions better than even a custom map.

Both are good solutions, but I'm not too excited about the $200 cost involved. Especially if I'm only going to use the auto-tune to get the map. What do I do with it afterwards? Should I look into buying someone's used auto-tune, get the bike mapped, and then try to sell it?

A nice thing about the auto tune is you can leave it on once you find your desired tune and when you head up into the mountains, hit hot/cold humid/dry air, hills, or a number of other changes in the environment, it'll keep right on optimizing the tune. Of course the stock ECM also does this up to a point.

I don't think I've seen a used Auto Tune for sale yet. Be sure to get the right one. There was some confusion a while back about them. Greg Benner is the best person to ask as he's running one with pretty much the same set up you are except he has the VM1 cams. Come to think of it; I should ask him to send me the MAP he's using since one day I want to be running the same set up or nearly the same. I may go with the Nascar6 re-cored mufflers since I have an extra set of stockers laying around.

From what I understand, the Autotune is not just to get a map. It comes with wideband O2 sensors that plug into the stock locations. Like BBob said, it doesn't just run once and give you a map. It constantly adjust A/F ratio while you are riding to give you optimal performance all the time. This would be much better than a static map as it can take into account all the different variables you'd experience when you ride - pressure/temp changes, air density, etc. That's pretty sweet if you ask me.

Another option is to run the stock air filter and don't bother with a tuner at all. Just leave the O2 sensors unplugged. It'll run fine with the D&D's.

CR; you should join the V*C forum. Lots of good info there too. Almost gaurantee you someone is using the exact same set up as you want and has the MAP for it so you don't need to go the AT route if you plan on making this the end to any engine mods for your XR.

I'll post a MAP I received from someone on that forum for you to try. It won't be perfect but it'll be in the ball park.

Thanks guys. I guess the auto-tune would be nice to have, I just can't get over the $200 hump.

BBob: Stock air filter and no PCV? Is that what you're suggesting as an option?

Btw, I did join the V** forum, but I never paid the membership. I like free stuff, as my first post suggests. LOL. :ltr:

Fuel mileage

Can anyone advise on the effects of the PCV on fuel mileage? Better or worst?

Yes CR and the AT will cost around $300.
Bbob: Alright, I'm sold on saving $300+$300=$600. What will I be missing out on without the PCV and AT? Btw, I am not getting a re-flash, since Calif. has some sort of moronic stage one map that's apparently not worth getting.

Worst. You'll get more power and cooler running engine, but it will eat a little more gas. Might not be enough to even mention it as a drawback though, and clearly the benefits do outweigh the drawbacks.
