Okay, I've pretty much made the decision to go for the Power Commander V and AutoTune for my High Ball. I've worked with my son who has a CBR1000 using the Bazazz unit, so I've had a little exposure to how these things work. I'm still not sure about whether I want to invest in the LCD or not, but here are some of my final questions relating to Victory-specific applications.

1) Given the limited space available on the High Ball, I'm assuming the units will be stored under the seat. In order to make the connection to my laptop while tuning I would prefer to not have to take the seat on and off. I would think I can leave the USB connected to the units and tie it down somewere so I can easily access it. Have any of you done this and what did you do? Is it unrealistic to think I won't need to take the seat off to do my tuning given I'll have a handlebar mounted switch for changing maps?

2) I realize auto tune doesn't affect the ignition map. Is there any reason I should realistically need to mess with this for tuning? And if so, should I assume I'll still need dyno time to tune that aspect of it?

3) The only reason I'm considering the LCD is to substitute it for using a laptop in my tuning efforts. Is that realistic and would it be worth it or not?

Thanks in advance for any info you guys might be able to give me. I'm a newbie at this injection tuning stuff and still learning. Thank God for Autotune as I'd never approach it without it. But anything (hints, tips, guidelines) you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

I believe the unit can be mounted under one of the side covers as well. On my Vision, I left a USB cable connected and available in the XM radio area of the right saddle bag, so I wouldn't have to remove the plastic body work to connect my laptop.

The PC-V does have the ability to manipulate timing tables on the Vics now, unlike the PC-3 which could not. However, it's not a good idea to change them. But if you do, yes, do it on a dyno so you can immediately see the results. When I have altered mine, even by as little as 2 degrees, it introduced ping.

I too have considered the LCD display, but not as a substitute for my laptop, but merely to keep an eye on whether the O2 sensors are still functioning or not. I have seen sensors go bad, and you would never know it unless you could see it on a screen. That, and I have a thing for gadgets. Every once in a while, I connect my laptop up when I start the bike, just to make sure that everything is working as it should. With the LCD, I wouldn't have to. Remember that the addition of the AT unit to the PC-V all but eliminates the need for constant tuning. You basically tell it what AFR(s) you want to run, and it sets the underlying fuel tables to meet those AFRs. Occasionally, you'll merely accept the trims that the AT unit maintains into the main fuel map, but it's not necessary as long as the AT unit is attached and functioning.

I mounted my PVC in an easy to access loaction so pulling a panel isn't such a big deal, although having a cable hooked up for quick access shouldn't be either. The basic philosophy behind the Autotune is to forgo the dyno session, my personal opinion is to dyno anyway and finetune with the autotune from there. even after a great dyno run you could still see variances on day to day driving. Example, I live and drive mostly in an altitude of 2200-2800 feet and my dyno guy is at near sea level. I'm gonna still be able to make minor tweaks in my fuel map to adjust for that difference.

FWIW, there is a 02 Sensor self test function built in to the auto tune.

The LCD is a neat toy and does provide some handy uses, I wouldn't use it in place of the laptop software however. I have the first Gen LCD and it was handy to have, unfortuantely it is not compatiable withthe PCV and only works with the PC3 ... =(

Thanks for the input guys. It sounds like I may be able to wedge this in under one of the covers. I looked around inside the right side cover and there appears to be an open space behind and to the left of the fuse panel. I'll check with the mechanic that's going to do the install and see if that would work. If that's the case I think I'll hold off on the LCD for now. It still looks like a kewl toy, but for now I'll have my hands full just with the basics I think.

Have anyone of you gone from a stage 1 tune to the PCV and if so was there any/much of a difference?
I have a stage 1 tune now and like it but I am always looking for a little more or a future mod to do. :crzy:

I'll let you know in a week. I have the stage 1 and just ordered my PCV and Autotune yesterday. The shop foreman at the Victory shop who used to work at Dynojet assured me I'm going to see a pretty significant difference.

You have to remember that the flash you get on the ECU for the stage 1 is the same flash regardless of whether you live at 10,000 feet or sea level. It makes sense to me that once you have your bike tuned and constantly maintained in that state you're going to feel a pretty significant difference in the overall ride.
