I have a 2003 Victory Kingpin with 40,000 miles. The last 3 months Vicky sputters at idle, and will hold idle for a minute then drop to almost zero rpm and then catches up.
the biggest issue is that, while cruising at low speeds 5-15 mph the bike bucks crazy like the clutch is engaging and disengaging. Sometimes it will die. When i go between 20-35 mph it still bucks buy not as extreme only every 5 sec or so. Then at 40-50 mph it is only every 10 sec or so. I have felt it at high speeds as well. Sometimes i have issues with the bike staying on.

I have changed the spark plugs, changed the wires, cleaned the injectors, and replaced the air filter. I also took it to the dealer, and they couldn't find anything. they said the fuel pressure was fine, and that maybe it is normal for this bike. I know it is not normal because it didn't use to do this.

Please help. I really miss driving smoothly. The backfiring is embarrassing anytime I am going at these speeds.

What do yall think?

Yeah. Your dealer techs probably aren't used to seeing this since it's an older bike now (12 year old).

I'm tired tonight and my memory isn't what it used to be but this is either a throttle position sensor issue or a timing issue that sounds about the same. You can set the throttle position on your own but you will need to have the dealer reset the timing issue with their "Digital Wrench" as they call their computer.

If the tech had a clue they would have caught it right away. My guess is it's the timing issue.

Up front it does sound like a fuel delivery problem however if it's been checked by the dealer their test protocol should have pinned that down.

Clean and tighten the battery connections and ground. Put a voltage meter across your battery and see what the voltage is when you are having problems. If you see a significant drop the problem is power and you've got some isolating to do. If the voltage stays around 14 it's elsewhere. It could still be power, just not the source.

I want to see a pic of an 03 Kingpin. I thought they didn't start makin the Pin till 04.....

Along with the tps, check the rubber throttle body adapter. They're known to go bad, they get some age on em and dry rot and crack creating a vacuum leak.

And Pheonix is right, they didn't come out with the kingpin till 04

Insurance card probably says Kingpin. Lots of companies do that. I thought they might be charging a higher premium, so I had them correct it. They didn't want to at first, but when I asked if it were wrecked or stolen if they would replace it with a Kingpin? they changed my card/policy VERY quickly after that.....

Yeah my insurance cards say kingpin on em. I told them that wasn't right, but when they looked up the VIN again it still came up as a kingpin. oh well

It took me a year to get my insurance and registration changed. The bike was initially listed as a Polaris motor home when it was imported and it took some convincing and explaining to the government run organizations clear it up. Thought we had it done on the first go-round but the next year it came up as the same thing and we did it all over again. In hind-sight I should have left it alone because when it was corrected my insurance went up. :(

You may want to go the serial number route with Victory though because they weren't made in 2003 (at least released) just to confirm and clear things up. You'd hate to run into a problem with any possible insurance claim in the future. You know they will look for any reason possible not to pay.
