Has anyone tried this? I tried on a small portion of an 05 wheel and lets just say it's not the result I was looking for. I started with 180, then 240, 400 and finished up with 1000. I was able to get all the machine marks out, but not the shine I was looking for. I've never polished aluminum before so anyone who could give me some pointers would be greatly appreciated! I bought a black and decker mouse specifically for this trial and it's very handy, thanks in advance

a lot of work I would recommend when you are done to clear coat them. Cause it will turn back black. You have to polish them all the time to make them look nice.

thanks, I bought the master's forumla for when I'm done. Where i'm running into the issue is the actual spokes I have the 05 style (split 3 spokes) and the spokes I cannot get a shine to them. Has anyone done this themselves?

I might end up having to take it somewhere, but I wanted to give it a try. Mechanically I am inclined and body/paint I am declined haha, but I at least like to attempt it before I bail. I was wondering if maybe the spokes are a mag alloy which I've heard do not polish well (if at all).
eclipse yes I was going directly, I followed some directions from a post on the other forum and unfortunately I can't see his pics because of their site update, but he only did 400 to 1000.
I can't even get a semi reflection in the wheel with the lower grits, which I thought I was supposed to get at least a semi-reflective surface with the 240

I had the inspiration to polish cast wheels off of a Virago I had a few years ago. Well, I had over 40 hours into sanding with different grit sand paper and cratex. I still had at least another 10 to go to finish that one wheel. As stated, you need to step up through different grit paper. I started with 180 where the cast marks were,then went to 220,then 400,then 600,.I tried polishing at that point,but had to go finer.So did 1000. I was getting close, but I obviously didn't really know the right process. I also bought buffing wheels,jewelers rouge,cratex wheels,sanding discs,etc,etc. It is way cheaper and faster to pay someone to do it who has the right equipment and expertise in polishing. At least that was my experience.
BTW, I ended up just buying a used wheel and using it instead of polishing.:crzy:

did u try going 400 600 800 to 1000? maybe the scratches are to deep? i've never done thing but i work in a body shop 400 grit to 1000 is a huge jump i would try atleast 600 or 800 before going to 1000. i know its not the same but when i buff a car i use 1500grit then 3000 buffs alot easier

Check your spokes and see if there stainless

Most spokes all ready have some sort of plating on them in that case your stuck where your at.

Only thing you can do is put in new spokes. No if's and or buts find a wheel guy that can do the lacing for you. Check your aftermarket shops for one.

this is not the spoked (bicycle style) wheel, it is the three spoke wheel. I've put about 20 hours in to one side of one spoke and no avail. I'm checking with a local vendor to see what he will quote me. I believe I need to have these sandblasted or need to apply some sort of cleaner prior to sanding. I was able to get the machine marks out and the surface is smooth it just has no luster. Thanks for your help guys, I'll let you know how they turn out

did them on my harley lots of work but you can get them looking like chrome go to this site they have exc instructions for polish wheels and also sell the kits and everything you need.I bought a kit from them for aluminum wheels and read there instructions and with alittle work your wheels will look great.Check out the site and see if you want to put the time into your wheels but it can be done.I did a set of fatboy wheels over the winter worked on them when i had nothing to do and they turned out great www.caswellplating.com

interesting, I believe I'm fighting the clear coat issue. I'm surprised the grits are so low 120/180/240, but obviously they know what they are doing. The worst part is I already started on one of the spokes so using the wheel would just look silly right now. A local guy (tampa) gave me a low quote, but wanted a picture first. I sent it earlier today and am awaiting a repsonse. If I can get both wheels polished for around $100 I think it's a great alternative to the billet wheels.

O.k. I did polish mm 08 V Jackpot. Mine was more stain from chloride on the dirt road. Started with 600/800/1000/1500/1800. Then polished the **** out of them with the three standard rouges. Worked well, looked awesome. Put a sealer on but it came back, from chloride, even washed wheels after each ride. Slowly came back. Think about Chroming them. Anyone ever use Paul's chroming in PA.:crzy:

Hmmmm 20 hrs 1 spoke? Cheaper to buy new polished wheels from Kewl Metal or other source
