my dealer may have to pull the motor on my 2011xc for powder coat problems on the cylinders. It,s got me thinking about cams which I have already researched but also porting and polishing the heads. I'd like to get some feedback on the topic re cost benefit. also if it could result in loss of low end torque or cause warranty issues.I'm not looking to build a fire breathing monster just that extra bit of snap, right now I have cored the pipes, k&n filter and stage 1 reflash and it works great.

My position is the further you take the stock parts away from their original form, the easier it is for the warranty to be tossed out the window. Say for instance you have some catastrophic engine failure. It shouldn't be too hard for Victory to make the argument that the porting and polishing might have lead to that issue. After all, who is to say that the person doing the work did it right? Then you can come back and say no it didn't, then they argues yes it did....the whole time, you have a dead bike on your hands.

Victory, like all manufacturers, put together a package and they warranty that package. While there is some legal latitude in regards to upgrades, if my concern were warranty, I wouldn't be messing with the heads in particular knowing that Victory can sometimes be stingy on warranty items.

From what has been said, one of the problems that the X bikes has is breathing due to the design of the air intake. I know you stated that you don't want a fire breathing monster but you are doing everything out there with the exception of adding cubic inches. I would look at how much that snag at the air intake would take away from your porting before I spent too many $$.

Yes cams would be a good deal as long as dealer is tearing your motor a part.
As for port and polish that usually goes when your going to a big motor.
I would get a hold of Lloydz and ask them and keep in mind your going to have to do some kinda fuller and Lloydz has a good one.
Like most ever one here you don't list where you live.
The Vic shop in Iowa. is rated top notch too

hey billy did you mean something beyond the k&n filter I installed when you refered to the limited breating on the xc?

The stock heads do great in stock form. You'd have to put a lot of money into the heads to be able to feel a difference with a stock motor.
You will get way more bang for the buck with a set of cams, or compression/bore - all of which technically void warranty, but I wouldn't worry about that.

If you had the ports cleaned up and a multi-angle valve job done it would definitely be worth it, and there's no way that cleaning up the heads could be blamed for a failure.

Call Adam at Torch Performance 845-744-6699. They have extensive experience with Victory cylinder heads.

poppamark, what I'm talking about is the amount of air that the bike can let in is limited by the way the air intake is set up due to the frame. Only so much air is going to get in there.

Half Crazy, since you brought up Lloyds, I'm going to have to stick by the answer given in the FAQ on his website.....

I've spent way too many $$ over the years on various cars and bikes to know that once you get into internal engine mods, factory warranties start to get dicey at best. If you have a good dealer and your saddlebag hinge breaks on your Vic with a 116" will they fix it? More than likely, but there is a whole lot of talk about the dealer network being in its infancy to put it politely and Mother Victory not always going out of her way to assist on warranty work.

If there were a mechanical warranty issue and I was the guy at Victory in charge of deciding if I should honor it on a modified bike, you would need one hell of an argument to pit your mechanic, no matter how good he is, against my engineers who designed the bike. After all, the only argument they really need is that the bike was designed within certain tolerances and parameters, you intentionally exceeded those.

I'm not saying I agree with it, I'm just saying if warranty is an issue, don't start pulling the engine apart and modding it.

OK, forget the cams and the headwork... oh, and put the 'cores' back in the pipes too...

Although I sense a tinge of sarcasm, how many guys are running around with modded pipes, performance air filters and the stock tune? Everyday we see guys talking about lean engines which = hot engine.

I'm sure it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for Victory (or any other manufacturer) to say no to peeling powdercoat on engine parts if the engine were found to be outside of their acceptable parameters due to the owner modifying it.

If it's really a question, call Victory, tell them you want to port and polish your heads, bore your cylinders, swap cams, remove your pipe cores or whatever and were wondering if the factory warranty would still be honored. I've been wrong before.

Half crazy to completely crazy, LOL. Lets not get carried away...put the cores back in "hell no". like I have seen it on here before remove your airbox seal(put there for immisions and some riders inability to listen to air flooding into intake) and plug your O2 sensors in before checkups.

I wonder... if you did need some warranty work, if you didn't say anything, could they tell the cams were VM-1s?

If you cleaned up the bowls/ports on the heads, did a multi-angle valve job, and swirl polished the back of the valves, could they tell with the heads all assembled?

Ah hello HC, this is the Paratrooper guy that's on the Intruder Alert forum. Found my way over here, nice to see that you post in both forums as well. cheers
