I just bought a 2004 Kingpin with stage 1 exhaust, filter, and vented airbox. I assume it has a download because I couldn't find any type of controller mounted anywhere.
The bike runs and sounds great, with just a hint of pop on decel. I wouldn't be disappointed with more power either.
I was thinking of installing a Power Commander or VFC for a few reasons. First, I just like to tinker with stuff. Second, in my experience, external controllers do a better job than dealer downloads. The best way is to flash the ECU with a custom map, but that's not possible with a Victory as far as I know.
So, what would you do? I've never used Power Commander. How good of a job could I do tuning it without a dyno session? What about the VFC?

Worked great, laptop hook up. You could change the settings in the 100 rpm range. Back then they had free maps. If you changed something they had a map that was close to your setup. Now it looks like they charge for it. They also have 2 different styles. Me personally the PC version you can upload your parameters. Keep track of what changes you made. Make your on mapping. Till you get it just right. The first 1000 RPM is the stock ecu then after that the power commander takes over. Good luck on your decision. I am still debating whether to leave mine stock or not. Seems like you start to pour money into it with no return back.:crzy: (note):: looks like this unit does not take over the ecu until the 3000 rpm range with 30% throttle positioning. So I would check into this before I buy any thing. Normal operating range is 1850 to 2500 RPM. This is were you run most of the time so it is important for the mixture to be right.
