I'm thinking about upgrading the rear shock on my wifes BW to a Progressive 465. Progessive lists a long a short version. DOes anyone know if the BW has the short version as the stock size? I'm guessing it does since the BW is lower that a KP and a Vegas(?). I'm trying to find just a little less height for her, and a new shorter shock would bother improve the ride and give her firmer footing.

Thanks in advance!

Have to ask how much have you tried to adjust the stock shock.
You can get a good verity out of it. You'll save 500 bucks or more

Hi Triumph900,
I've installed a progressive 465 into my BW. I went for the longer shock which has given me an extra 25mm of travel, couldn't really say if it raised the seat height by the same amount. The bike still feels pretty low the me, I'm 180cm. This has increased the rear travel to almost 100mm ( up from 75mm).The BW, like the other steel frame bikes may look cool with only 3" of rear travel, but ride comfort/quality is not the best, particularly if the roads you ride are not billiard table smooth. i've gained a bit of ground clearance and a much smoother ride.No more jarring jolts to the spine. I have a photo of the two shocks side by side just have to work out how to upload it. The short version of the progressive shock is the same length as the standard BW shock. The long version would bring rear travel up to Kingpin spec. The overall quality is very good, plus you get rebound damping adjustment, as well as a more precise way to adjust preload (threaded collar as opposed to a stepped collar). I reckon the upgrade is worthwhile, I know I'm comparing apples and oranges but even the short version would be an improvement due to better damping control. I've also upgraded the front end with firmer race tech springs and emulators. I did this first as I felt the front was way too mushy( technical term for shite). This work really highlighted how crap the rear end was. I now have a bike that handles pretty good. I just have to adapt my style a bit more to it having mainly ridden sports bikes previously. I bought mine off flea bay, part# 465-1163 ( long), 465-1167 (short). $370.00 USD + postage, though my postage was up there due to being on the other side of the planet.
Hope this helps.

Many thanks Razar. That's exactly the information I was looking for. I kind of figured the PS short was the same as stock for the BW, although I hoped I might shave a tiny bit of height off to help my wife get on firmer footing. I suppose the improvement over stock of the PS shock is a factor, but it's a lot of money!
