I have a 2007 Vegas Premium. I installed the S&S airbox and VCF-III yesterday with no issues.

Today my Lloyd's Quarter turn came in. I took off the tank and installed the quarter turn with no issues at first. Then I tried to close the housing, but I can't since there is a .5 inch gap at the bottom.

I have tried everything and I can't get the housing closed. I have the HR2 throttle ring. Can someone help?

Attached is the pic of my problem as well as the grips. What kind of grips are these (I just bought the bike)?

Thanks

If you pull every thing off the bars can you get the housing closed.
Try it off bar with grip in place and see.

On the vision models housing has to be in a certain spot or it will not close

I put the bike back together so I can go for a ride. I will try again here soon with the install. I will see if the housing units closes when not on the bars and let you know.

Thank you

I went out and tried it all again...this time just off the bars. I still couldn't get the housing closed. I could get it within 1/4 inch of being closed and then found that the handle wouldn't turn at all.

I have no idea what the issue is. I tried it many ways but still no success. Crazy that installing the VCF-III and S&S was "easier" than installing this quarter-turn.

I pulled out the dremel and grinded as much out as I could from the housing...still won't fit. Now the handle has a ton of play because of the housing being so much bigger than the throttle handle. What a day.

I think I'd have called WD (or who ever you ordered from) for a fitment check before I did all that. There are 2 sizes and they don't claim to work with every grip. They say you may need to do some shaving, but not major reconstruction.

Looks and sounds like you got the wrong ring. If you already contacted them, my apology.

I called them and they said I have the correct piece for having stock grips. I just bought the bike and I don't know the exact grips I have. I attached a pic above with the grips.

I got on another forum and another guy with an 07' Vegas Premium had the same issue. The chrome housing is very tight.

I spent an hour today cutting a PVC pipe the same size of the 1/4 turn piece...but having half the thickness. I finally got the housing closed but was so cramp that the handle won't turn. I give up.

I have a 1/4 turn HR2 for sale if anyone wants one.

I don't think your grips are stock ... I think that is your problem ....

HR1 is for stock and HR2 is for aftermarket grips

What grips do you have,

the 1/4 ring should fit tight on your grip and

I miked the OD of the HR1 and it was 1.73 so that like 13/4"

I am looking at your grips and they look exactly like the ones on my Hammer and they ARE stock at least for my Hammer. I have a quarter turn sitting in my garage for installation but your story makes me want to re consider...

I had the same problem.

Have Avon grips and Ness RAD III controls.

Had to grind and grind and grind the heck out of the inside of both halves of that switch housing for it to finally close. Still not silky smooth, but it's not catching.

I got the HR2 for my Ness grips ... It went right on no problems , I would say if it doesn't go on and fit and function perfectly , you have the wrong one .....

I grinded a ton out of the housing and I still couldn't get the throttle ring to fit. I have the HR2 ring and there was at least .5 inch gap in the housing bottom and wouldn't close. The diameter of the HR1 is not much different than the HR2...so I am just dropping the idea of the quarter turn.

Seems like everyone with 08+ bikes have no issue installs...but the 07- (especially the premium with the chrome housings) bikes have some issues with the rings.

I even fabricated a PCV pipe identical as the HR2 ring...except for half the width....this still wouldn't work. I even messed around with some putty on the handle and found that I have maybe 2mm clearance in the housing for any type of ring.

Because of me grinding the housing so much..the handle would move to the left and right a few mm and then there is 1/4 inch play as well. This drove me insane last night. So I took off the housing and found some marine hardening putty..and used this to create the housing area that I grinded out. You kneed the putty and then it hardens into the strength of metal (feels like it anyway). The putty worked great and now I have no play at all in my handle. I want nothing to do with the quarter-ring at the moment. But I am sure I will jack with a little more down the road.

I put on the HR1 and the throttle housing has at least 1/2 inch gap (just like in the HR2). I put everything together while not on the bar...so there is no way it will fit.

The chrome housing on the Premiums have install issues...have to do some dremel work later. Seems like a common theme with these type of housings.

I looked and in 09 they changed your switch housing.
on my 08 vision I could not get it to work and I have ground the hell out of the housing. Its in the tool box and I'm never going to try to make it fit again. For me I see they switch the housing in 2010
So screw it I spent $20 bucks for nothing.

I decided to not jack with it anymore and will just throw the HR1 in my junk drawer. A few weeks ago I ground the heck out of the housing to try and get the HR2 to fit. I made things so much worse. I almost had to buy a new $220 chrome housing. I ended up using some plastic weld to get things kind of back to normal.

I am now scared to death to grind out the housing again to get the HR1 to work. I don't mind the throttle at all being stock. I think I might play around with different thicknesses of PVC pipe that others are using to make their own "thin" throttle ring.

I went to several hardware stores and purchased several 1" PVC pipes with different thicknesses. I used a handsaw and cut them to fit on my throttle grip. I tried several and finally found one that fit.

I cut the piece, sanded it, and used a razor blade to groove out a cable spot. I gorilla glued it to the throttle handle. It works great. It is about 1/2 thickness of the quarter ring. So I guess I have a 1/8 ring now. Glad I finally found something that works. Surprisingly how much better the throttle response it has now.
