I dont really speed past that age some what but I do like the way they just keep you in check..for instance cruising down the road in my truck my detecter goes off and I just check my speed and make sure im good..

So whats the best most economical detector for a bike ? I dont want to add something that will take away from the clean look to much. I would like in a perfect world for it to be hidden away with a red indicater mounted somewhere in sight..I did search but didnt find much..

anyone have ideas?

For a whole lotta bang for the buck, you can't beat the Escort 8500-X50 at $299.95 minus a trade-in for your old one. I sent in an 18 year old Escort 4500 and got $40 off! That's $259.95 for one of the best. Free shipping too. If you can pass on the gee whiz bells and whistles like GPS and a voice that tells you what band you just got hit with, you'll get one near the top of the pyramid and save hundreds.

Radar detectors

That's why I LOVE my Cross Country's cruise control. Now I don't have to worry about not having a steady hand on the throttle and having to watch out for The Man :)

I would like to try one before I shell out the money.

I found one in a box out in the garage the other day. I'm sure it was some gift I won from a credit card company or such along the way. Anyway, I got some duct tape and stuck it on my dash on my way to work the other morning. Before I got onto the freeway, I passed a cop car that was assisting at an accident. The detector was silent. Next, I was on the highway and passed a Highway Patrol car in the median watching traffic. The detector remained silent. I got on a freeway that crosses into town and the damn thing wouldn't shut up even though no cops were anywhere to be seen. Finally, I went past a known camera detector that even went off as a guy in a Mini-Cooper passed me. Again, not beep out of the detector.

I stuck it back in the box when I got home.

Velcro works wonders for me. I use the type that is self adhesive and put the fuzzy part on the bottom of the detector and the other part on my tank bag (top of brake master cylinder reservoir might work) and dash boards of car and truck. A universal mount, of sorts. Easy to use, clean in design and grips like mad. thumb up

Here in Australia in all but one state radar/laser detectors are illegal:(
Along with guns and unalienable rights. But you can use your barbie when we're shoveling snow. Cheers mate! cheers

Only two speeding tickets I've ever got in my life was when I had a radar detector. Got rid of the detector and no more tickets. My experience is if they know you have one (and they often do) you're almost guaranteed no break from the cop. No radar detector and they will cut you some reasonable slack.

Hummmm absolutly the reverse for me..Like said before I dont intend to be out there speedn. Im a cruiser. The only times Ive got a ticket or came close was when i didnt have it and I had my cruise set and it would surge at the top of a hill to bring speed to set speed and low and behold that is where he was hiding just over the top of the hill...cruise is fine and dandy for the long straight hauls but its not an option for me...I will try useing my X50 and I found this cool clean bracket http://www.motorcycleradar.com/bar_mounts.htm#3-30912 so i will give this a try...thanks for the replies.

You'll only need it on a Victory if you are going down hill.
You poor soul... Must've bumped your head really hard. Wishing you a quick recovery. :ltr:

Thank you Mr CrossRoads for the concern for my health. I'm fine, thank you. Ride one, you'll buy one, is not always the case. Have a fine day and enjoy your ride.

That is true. I rode a few of them over the years before I finally took the plunge. But I also didn't spend a lot of time hanging out on Victory forums trying to dream up reasons not to buy one either.

Don't have to dream up a reasons not to buy one. Spend time here to see what is new with Victory. The poster ask a question about Victory and Harley. I guess negitive posts are a no-no, even if they are a answer to a question. A form member on this form also posts on a Harley form. No one over there get bent out of shape at his posts. He is not over there trying to dream up reasons not to buy a Harley. He has his opinions and they are welcome. He bad mouth no one or there opinions. I have never told anyone not to buy a Victory, only answered a question or two. Never said one bike was better than the other. Mr saddlebag, you should lighten up. Saying a Victory only needs a radar detector giong down hill. Take a break, go for a ride.
