MD....my point exactly. What is available today that would take that kind of a licking and keep on ticking? Adding an Otter Box or the like, will add unwanted bulk, where I'm concerned. I guess I am just too last century or a Luddite or both.

My phone. I am telling you my phone with case is not very thick. Probably about as thick as that tablet but it is longer and taller than your flip phone. It fits in my front or back pocket very easily

But its no longer available, except on the used market and don't trust used phones.

Holy shite MD, that's a $530 phone! No phone is worth that much to me. I'm buying my flip new for $75 + free shipping and I stay off of contract with Sprint. I could have bought refurbed ones for $25, but you know what I think of used phones. Remember, you're talking to your grandpa here. Mine are not contemporary values. Mine were forged in the Great Depression and WWII.

I didn't think you were going to buy it, I was just showing you your options. BTW...I've gotten my use out of that S5 Active...it's what kept me in touch with you guys as I lay in that hospital bed! I've had it for over 30 months now....that equates to less than $20 a month to own the phone. The longer I own it, the more it pays for itself! They were banking on me swapping it out for a newer model but I didn't. It's a phone, computer, calendar, camera, photo gallery, and anything else I may need. With my active lifestyle, it's come in handy and works for me. I didn't expect you to be interested, just showing you what is out there. Now you can make an informed decision, which you have! My job here is done...lol

Bully is right, I am not the addictive type - I got off Oxycontin after only 5 days post op, having my chest cracked open. Smart phones do not not appeal to me mainly cuz of their size. I can carry my flip in any pocket, including the Watch pocket in my 5 pocket jeans. When riding, it and my wallet are in the jacket pockets in case of a go down and bike and rider get separated. You all should do do that too.
CBS 60 Minutes must have been watching you, doobliss and your wife when they thought of producing that segment about cell phone addiction.
I bet it was us. We've murdered millions with our cars because we porn and drive. It's MadMax....

I guess one's choice of phone is based on what one is used to, what one needs it for and what one wants to pay. Maddog, I'd be more than happy to convert to a smart phone if a good one could be had at the price point I'm paying for the flip. I prolly wouldn't use one to the extent you do though as I'm still hung up there somewhere in the last century. That's the same reason I wouldn't buy one of those BMW bikes with all that electronic froo-froo on it. I'm also put off by all the electronic nanny stuff they're putting into our cars now too. I was born well before all that came about and adapted to very little of it, cuz I'm a simple guy who still uses a paper map.

Nothing wrong with paper maps! They are very reliable! They do not fail if you lose power! I still keep then in my car!

I wish , good thing the wife is independently wealthy ! Now , back to reality : Heavy winds damaged our roof badly and that is a necessity , a couple skylights would drip in heavy rain , and my Masonite siding is garbage and failing fast . Hoping to get a little help on the roof through insurance , but not banking on it .

Long story short , we got a great package deal on the whole project , super long financing , low interest and 20 grand down and we are in business . Unfortunately , these are the consequences of home ownership , and because I'm a typical "**** magnet" something else around the house will probably blow up next week .:)

Funny thing is we have a GPS, but because it gets confused at times, Pretty wife backs it up with a paper map in hand.
