Today is the local HD dealer's toy run. I don't ride in the run, but ride to the location they end up at. There are 5 of us that are going to meet there. We get there early eat and watch them ride in and there is several thousand scooters on this run. The weather is suppose to be in the low 70's, winds 10 to 20 mph. So not a bad day for a toy run and I generally see a few people I haven't talked to in a long time. They are ending the run at a new place this year and the beer is pricey there. They do collect a lot of toys though. The Marines will have 3 trucks there and they will be full when they leave. So I picked up my toy yesterday and I'll head over there about 12:45. The run has a police escort and they leave the dealers at 2pm, so it want take them long to arrive at the final destination. I don't know if it's even 10 miles from start to finish. Maybe with the nice weather this year there will be more of the old guys attend. They will be there early like me and we will have a chance to visit and talk about all the crazy people and things that happened in the old days at the Toy Run.

Yeah, I don't know why, but some guys, usually young, dumb, and full of cum, feel hot dogging in a pack of thousands of people is the right thing to do. I've seen them go down a few bikes ahead of me. Most the time they have a woman on the back so they too get hurt. Just friggin stupid. I don't like riding in packs with strangers anymore either.

I ride with friends but yeah I'm not interested in riding with a thousand people I don't know. Cool idea just riding to destination with a toy. Can get a much better ride in that way.

70's. Kinda jealous. I might ride today for dinner it's 45. Might be 55 tomorrow afternoon so I'll ride to work. I have not give up on riding yet in the north.

It was a nice day, lots of motorcycles and toys. There was about 15 people there that I knew and met a few new people. Johnny was there, he turned 80 this summer and has been riding continuously for 65 years. I only stayed a couple of hours. After the main group rode in it was shoulder to shoulder in many areas. This is one of the three bars before everyone showed up

A common question here is how long oil lasts on the shelf. Well I think this video answers that question with this 70 yo Quaker State non rated oil from yesteryear. It seemed to be as good as the day it was canned but of course the newer oils have so much more refinement, research, and additives so of course this is why engines last so much longer with newer oils made for today's closer tolerances.

Note: This answers how long a sealed oil container will last but not how long an opened container will last. I can't prove it but I think an opened container will last indefinitely if the container has a screw on cap so it isn't exposed to the ambient air. It's when the carbons in the engine get into the oil that it starts to become acidic. Apparently newer oils have an additive for that too according to this video.

What do ya mean by Air Force?!? Navy pilots don't need no steenking 3,000 foot runway to land a supersonic fighter.

The development of battery technology during recent years has been nothing short of amazing. The next step is solid state batteries that will do away with dangerous chemicals and at the same time double the storage capacity in half the space. The present limitations of electric travel and distance is currently a hold-back for many outside of the urban centers but being able to go 700 miles on a single charge would be a game changer. Present technology is still too expensive and more polluting than the proponents let on. It's not all sunshine and roses. But it's getting there.

In 2030 the kid that bought your antique CCT will be running an electric motor and using those over sized saddlebag speakers to blast a sound track of his favourite exhaust pipe.

This is something you don't see everyday. A Ford Flathead V8 engine running with with one head removed. Not only is that amazing by itself but it allows us to see how fast the pistons and valve move at just a lower rpm. Imagine all that happening at 4k or 6k rpm!

The sun is shinning this morning after 4 days of misty, foggy drizzling cloudy days. In past years I would have been out hunting this time of year. I always like to quail hunt after a light snow and then cook up a few for breakfast with biscuits and gravy. It's been years since I've done that.

Yeah, the sun is shining bright here too today after 3 days of rain and/or overcast, but it won't get over 45 degrees according to the weather report. We are kinda spoiled and acclimated to warmer weather in AZ so I don't even think about riding in anything below 50 degrees any more. These days I like my different cars too so they are always a fun option. When I was younger I wouldn't have said this but things and times change.

Sad and she's right. Rent in some parts of the country are so ridiculous these days that people have to rent out rooms just to afford a house. Reminds me of a squirrel in a wheel running and running but really getting nowhere.

I have to run to Best Buy today and pick up my wife's Christmas present, to the beer store and buy beer and put up the Christmas tree. Then my Christmas stuff will be done for now. We have stopped buying for the kid and grand kids. My wife will buy for the 2 great grand sons and her mother. We no longer have a family Christmas it just got to be a big hassle. Five grand kids, their spouses live all over the place and guys I don't miss it. We will have 3 friends over that have no place else to go and we always have fun. I never know what I'm getting for Christmas but I always like what I get. I have been hinting for a pellet smoker this year. I'll have to wait and see what I get. The smoker I have is only 3 years old and in real good shape. But a pellet smoker does not have to be monitored as much and it maintains a more constant temperature.

I use an electric smoker with fantastic results and my favorite thing is after dropping some wood chips in a couple of times during the first hour or two; it just set it and forget it until it's time to take the goodies out. It makes doing a couple of slow-cooking pork shoulders a breeze and because I like the flavor of the drippings; I use that for healthy grease/oil and flavor. A win win. Afterwards I just brush down the racks, drain and clean the catch pan, and throw away the ashes in the wood burning pan. Takes less than 5 minutes normally.
