Ok guys I have ridden both etc etc.
I need to hear some thoughts about the following deal.

I own a 2011 XC Blue with 10,000 miles and all the following
Forged bars, D&D Exhaust with flash, Hi Flow air filter, homemade lowers, 11" Euroflip Gustofson windshield, Rockford Amp, 6 1/2" speaker upgrade, Factory Vic Pass backrest and a set of Vic Iso grips and 500 miles on new tires.
Dealer offering $11,250 to trade on the following:
2008 Cherry Vision Tour Premium with 11,000 miles and the following
XM radio, Both Trunk and original VIC factory backrest for the vision, block off plate if I choose to ride without either, heated seat, heated grips, Also Front & Back billet alum rims with new tires, Stage 1 level 2 exhaust AND AS A buddy that owns a Vision put it,
"Just about every single piece of chrome made for the Vision." Seriously, he said about the only thing he doesn't see is a CB radio.
I can't describe the Vision as well cause I simply don't know what all the chrome pieces are called but it is loaded.
OK, being honest here, a guy put it on consignment at my dealer. He is well off so he told dealer to get a flat $12,000 and they get $1000 of it. Dealer agreed.
SO here is where I'm at,
I loose 3 years for a Vision Loaded with chrome and gain a trunk which I don't have for XC. Basically same miles, both in great great shape, both new tires, etc etc.
3 years older model Vision with chrome vs XC described above.
I understand the ride thing..... I guess I'm interested in what you all think of the deal part of the post.

Please tell me what your thoughts are NOT the buffeting vs Power Windshield etc. I rode both before and I going to ride the Vision tonight after work so as I said I need your help Quickly, is this a deal or not? Sign or NOT? I KNOW ITS MY CHOICE but talk to me..
Another option is to keep my D&D exhaust and my backrest and sell them here for most of the difference in prices. Etc.
Give me your thoughts and Ideas.
Thank You all
I'll be reading them all until 5pm. Then the ride and possible negociations (sp)
Thanks Again

I live in Canada but there is a guy here with a 2008 Vision DLX in cherry for sale. He is asking $13900. The price on the Vision you are looking at seems to be fair. Based on that, if you really want a Vision you should try to make a deal. I have a Kingpin but I have ridden the Cross Country and the Vision. If I was planning on buying either of those bikes, it would be the Vision, hands down. Good luck on the deal.

Unless there is some mechanical issue with your XC that you aren't happy with, there is no way I would go from the upgraded transmission to an '08, period. It's also the first year of the Vision, and while there are a lot of happy '08 owners, I just don't trust first year models. There were some issues, electronics, radio, etc.

Gunslinger makes good points. 2008 was the first year for the Vision. It had the older transmission which, by the way, some people prefer. The Vision for sale here has 8800 miles on it, so the bikes are very comparable. I'm sure you are aware of the upside and downside of making a change like this. It all boils down to, what YOU want.

I think I'd buy a trunk.

Personally, I like the Visions better, but they sell for over $2k less than an equivalent XCT new. Can't imagine that gets better with age.

OTOH, we only live once, might as well enjoy it. If that means more glittery bits, then only more glittery bits will do.

So by your math you are debating giving the dealer

750 cash
three model years
1000 miles (10% of miles)
reportedly more curb appeal
a known history

for

a trunk
a pushbutton windshield
Sat rad (not sure that this means anything at trade in)
Bling (this means nothing at trade in)
Of these four drivers the windshield is the one factor that requires Vision ownership. The second possible Vision benefit is the 750 you front for it is likely less than what it would cost to add the equivalent bling to your Cross. That's subjective though. You had yours for years and apparently it wasn't top priority so far.

So the blue book on yours is over 15. That's probably high 10 to 15 % wherever you are.
His resale is 13 and a half.
On paper it's upside down.

But, this ain't flipping condos. It's riding. Like I tell the Queen... why ask me? Do what you want. You're going to anyways.

These are good points as well. "We only live once"...........therefore, we don't always do whats best from either a practical or business standpoint, but we do things because we want to. It isn't like borrowing half a million for a house. Its only a used motorcycle. In a perfect world, you would keep your Cross Country and buy the Vision. However, the world isn't perfect. Sometimes we just do things because we can.

With you list of what you've changed on you XC, assuming you like the mods, you're going to set yourself up for buying new exhaust and stereo upgrades on the Vision to get back to where you are now.
If it were me, stick with the XC and spend the $750 on a used trunk, that sounds like your biggest push. With the bags you have now you already have more storage then the Vision. Then, if you want the shiny, buy the shiny.
I've got a XCT because my wife didn't like the feel of the Vision and I like the extra storage.

i biked up from a 08 kp ( should have keep it too. ) to a 2012 xxt and love it. not bashing the vison but fell in love with the room and style of the xxt. the storage was way better for me, thats something only YOU can make. im sure you know you can add a trunk, if thats what you want.

I would never trade a 2011 bike for a 2008 unless I was the one getting some cash out of it.

I agree completely. I haven't researched the book value of either bike but it sounds like the owner of the vision is trying to recoup the cost of some of that bling bling.
If you gotta have a vision it seems like there may be better deals out there. Keep looking.

Well Guys First off thank you for the comments and thoughts from different angles. I have ridden Visions before so it wasn't really about the ride tonight but we did about 30 miles just to run it through the gears etc. Very Very nice bike to ride. A lot of good things like all the chrome, factory backrest with the luggage rack attached and trunk is included. It has the chrome rims that are great with new E3's on them.

BUT yep there it is the "BUT"

there also are some little things that need attention or worse, replaced.
The dash panel that has the radio buttons up through the ignition has been painted to match the Cherry but it isn't of very good quality. Doesn't match quite right and dull, not as shiny as the factory paint. The rings around the speedo and tach are not quite up to snuff. Little dull looking. The grab handles on the back have been painted the same as the dash panel so they kind of stand out at you. Yes, these could be taken care of by repainting BUT
Then the headlight has the smallest of a crack at the top right hand side and it has let moisture in. It is a little hazy inside. However, it is dust, because a drip of water ran down inside and washed the dust down towards the bottom. HUM....not good. The radio doesn't work as nicely as my XC does at selecting different songs etc. So although a very small strike, it is another strike.
Plus, adding to the fact, the dealer doesn't seem like their going to move at all on the price and I also just can't get by the 3 years older in Model years. Yes I could strip mine and sell the extras separately but with all the small things that I saw on the Vision I am pretty sure I will pass.
I really like my blue XC. I may look into lowers and go that route to get better air management. BUT (there it is again) I am not going to rule out a Vision at some point in the future. Just not this particular one at this time.

Again, thanks for all your comments.

I met up with a friend of mine who owns a XCT, as we stood around and BS, we both talked about what we liked on the others bike and that both of us almost bought the others bike before ours but in the end, we both REALLY liked ours and were really happy with what we got. Air managment is flat amazing on the VV among other things but I have really gotten into the looks of the Vision besides the ride. Ride one, you will own one. or two, or three... hehehe Cant' wait to get the TC back on the road!

Safe riding.

I know I am coming in a bit late, but I did a lot of test riding in Daytona. I was far more impressed by the CC than the Vision. Just my opinion I know--- but given the choice even up, the CC has my vote. cheers

Just met a guy in Carefree AZ. 2010 Vision. Custom metallic blue paint with ghosting. Chrome everywhere One of the nicest a visions I have seen. BTW Big fan ofthe Vision after owning it for a little over a month. The ride and handling are great. Complaints just one really. 1st gear winds out way too fast. Other than that a solid 10

This was a fun read. I too, almost went with a Vision, just liked the feel and storage of the CCT. That being said...there are a lot of rumors of a Vision remake coming from Victory...and I would think one of the changes (if any) would be more storage in those side bags. If the Vision is changed.....there may go some accessory avaibility for some of the older models. Like someone said before....your money....your decision......I think you made the correct one. Happy riding! My favorite feature on the Vision......gotta be that electric windshield.
