I was comparing the cross country to the yamaha stratoliner deluxe and read someones comparison. It talked about the braking on the cross country and said the rear brakes grab with little pressure and the front brakes barely brake without a lot of pressure. Anyone give me any feedback on the brakes. Also anyone have any wisdom positives and negatives between the two bikes. Thanks

The front brake leveler has a 5 position adjustment knob. You can have it grab sooner or later, depending on how big your hand is, and where your comfort zone is.

Best thing one can recommend to you is to test ride both bikes, if possible on the same day. The differences will stand out and your decision should be easier. And if you test ride both, and buy the Stratoliner (or any other bike) instead of the Cross Country, Victory will give you $100. See the official Victory website for details.

Rule of thumb
Rear brakes are to slow you down and front brakes are for stopping.
As for feel we all have a different feel for brakes and get use to what we ride.
Do your self a favor and buy the bike you like you can change the factory brake pads to a more aggressive pad at any time you want.

I do not have any problems stopping. Link brakes would have been better. you will get use to em and find the brakes are good. I do not have to put exclusive pressure for the front bakes to work like they should.

I noticed the front brake issue when I first got my XC, coming from a Harley Road Glide with the Brembo brakes. I have mostly gotten used to it now.

I have also read that the rear brakes are "grabby", but have not experienced this at all.

I do find the the XC brakes seem to work better if you use both, i.e. first start to apply the rears, then the fronts. Over the years, I have got used to just using the front brakes on many of my bikes (since they work so well) so a little adjustment.

There are a lot of twisty roads where I live and the best way to go around a tight curve is to trail brake the rear - it stabilizes the bike. My brakes are very easy to modulate and I have never experienced any grabbing. I read about that in a comparo test too and I couldn't believe it. Best advice I can give - no matter what bike you have, practice, practice, practice until you have mastered panic stopping.
