Anyone think the high ball rear tire locks up awful easy?
I have a Vegas and they are night and day traction on the rear.
Any have knowledge of the Metzler 888's ? Are they really hard rubber?
Not sure if it's the rubber or weight of the bikes, or what

They'll all lock up if you jump on the rear brake.
I locked my sticky Pirelli Night Dragon the other day on a panic hit, woman stepping onto road txting.
Happened so quick and unexpected that I was on the rear in an instant.
Squeal of tyre woke her up, just as well cos a bike with a locked rear ain't stopping in a hurry!
I've only got organic rear pads too.
The stock tyres being so long wearing are probably on the harder side and thus more prone to lookup I panic stops.
I'd normally use the front first but my right boot is always closer to the pedal than my hand on the brake lever.

what model Metzeler do you have. The Marathon is a touring tire and usually that means hard rubber.
If you're locking up your rear tire you're going to crash. The rear brake is to slow you down not stop you. Front brake first then rear to assist

Thanks guys and I'm aware of your points, VJ I think you answered my question, they are marathons.
I ride back and forth to work every day, same routes, both Vegas and Tour bike. Enter corners and stops the same way day in and out.
Took the New (to me) high ball one day this week and both stopping and downshifting as I normally do with my other bikes (yes most stopping power on front brake) locked up the rear wheel. Surprised me each time so I knew something was very different. I have to think it's a combo of lighter bike and hard rubber, not worried just need to ride it a little different.

I put cheapie GG pads in the rear not only for lockup prevention, but better overall braking control and lighter trail braking in the twisties.

GG is a rating for "bite" like HH is. GG is "gentler" than HH by quite a bit.

you could even have a old manufactured tire that would cause the problem.
Or to much air
either way keep the shinny side up

I agree...rear tire locks up easy. Even when down shifting. Will definitely get a softer tire when I replace these.
I bought a 2014 CCT and still had the original tires on it, went for a group ride and the road was wet.... I kid you not but I almost s.h.i.t. my pants, slither and slide all day long...

Jumped on a ferry next day bought 1 front 2 rear Metz and good that I did, bike ride like sunshine , 2K kilometers and got a big Bolt inside the rear... Lucky I had another rear....

Somehow the rear brake-pads were gone .... Only 3k kilometers when I bought the bike

Lucky I still had the original jackpot breakpad in my stock box ....

Moral of the story, change your tires / break oil / check brake pads... If you even think there is something wrong, then normal there is, so it wasn't yours, but it is now, just change that stuff out....

Edit, just wanted to say, on my jackpot I changed the angel of the foot break, so it is less twitchy for lock-up... After 1 year like that I must say that it was the best for my jackpot to change the angle of the foot break...

I did the same on my Highball. I lowered the brake lever (rotated it forward and down) to the point it takes a little bit of reach to press it down. Now it seems perfect, it never locks up, unless I push that bit extra hard. The twitchyness easy lock up is totally gone. The other benefit as well is that the bike is more comfy because I don't have to move my foot so far away from the brake pedal when I don't want to use it.

I agree.... But did it slightly different, Lyndall on front and HH on the rear... The stock pads leave just soooo much dust on the rim.. Pfffffff

HH on the rear is what I got away from. They caused to many lockups and made trail braking in the twisties difficult. Since switching to GG, I have had no lockups and have excellent trail braking control. But as they say; To each his own, or there's more than one way to tie a cat's tail.
