Hey All,

Has anyone else had to have their 2007 8-Ball remapped? Mine was running a bit funky, then I was having trouble starting and keeping the bike running when it was warm, so I took it to the shop and the mechanic had to reset the bike to the factory defaults and make adjustments after that. In less than a year of owning the bike I have put over 12,000 miles on it and would like to keep riding without any worries about the fuel map going astray.

I got the Stage 1 upgrade back in March and was riding a lot after that without issue but about a month ago is when things started getting strange. Is this a common problem? Is it exclusive to the 8-Ball or do other Victorys with the 100ci engine and Stage 1 upgrade experience this problem? Is it a one time thing? Will this need to be remapped again in 6 months?

Just wondering if anyone has some thoughts, experiences, and/or solutions.

I'm not sure I was in quite the same boat but I own a vegas 8-ball 2007. I had the stage one kit put on as well. When you buy the stage one kit it comes with a new fuel map download. After the download I was noticing a it was back firing a bit on decelleration. I brought it back to the dealer to ask if it was normal. The explaination I got was every bike runs different and it these downloads are a baseline and often need to be tweeked for the each bike. They said I was getting a lean pop from the new download. The dealer went back and richened it up a bit and knock on wood no issues. I would say if you have to have it remapped every 6 months something is wrong. If the incident you referred to was an isolated incident, I would chalk it up to just that. If it keeps happening then I would have it checked out, I'm just not sure I would panic quite yet. That's my 2 cents.

I got the same analysis as you, that the bike was running lean. It was also idling really low as well and "coughing" at low rpms as opposed to actually backfiring. It still "coughs" during warm-up, but once she's warm the engine is smooth all the way through the power-band. So what your mechanic told you must be pretty accurate as my mechanic reset the fuel map to the defaults and tweaked it from there to correct the issues.

As for my question about how often this has to be done, it was for informational purposes and not to report that this adjustment has had to be done for my bike repeatedly. This is the first adjustment, and with hope, the last adjustment of the fuel map on my bike. I got in about 200 miles yesterday and the bike ran superbly so perhaps this is, as you said, and isolated incident.

Howdy Gashouse,

How's things? How's the 8-Ball these days? I'm upgrading the pipes in a few days and adding a fuel management system in the hope that the backfiring and coughing while she's idling will go away.

It looks like part of the backfiring problem was that the exhaust gasket on the front cylinder head was damaged when she had to go in for a repair as there was all kinds of carbon blow-out on one side of the head. So new gaskets and pipes are on the bike at this point. Now all I need is the replacement clamp to fasten the muffler to the header pipe. One of the two clamps that came with the pipe kit was damaged so I had to request a new clamp.

Once the upgrade is complete I'll upload a couple of pictures and let you know how the bike is running.

The downloads go astray sometimes. Its not just your year and model. Remember these are computers for the most part and software does get corrupted.

As stated earlier. If this keeps happening then you have a problem.

Hay guys
New to the forum & looking for some answers in this area. I'm getting some "popping, chugging??" while trying to hold speeds from 20 to 40-45 mph, I don't notice this after 50mph, or during acceleration of any kind . Strangely enough the problem didn't arise until after installing a set of passenger floorboards. While installing, the support bracket from the stock pegs to the mufflers had to be removed. I have an 05 Vegas w/ Victory Performance pipes, K&N air filter, & newly installed Power Command fuel mapping (installed after floorboards).

First I have to say thst I have seen ONE currupted map in 6 years, and that was caused by a failed voltage rtegulator feeding AC current to the ECM. That make the whole thing a non issue

Second. If the bike ran well once the S1 was initially done. The bike did not need to be remapped, or reset after 12000 miles, What it needed was the throttle body cleaned. Over time a build up of crud aroung the throttle butterflys will make the bike run poorly. There is a zillion threads on how to clean them.

Finnally. Whenever a map is loaded into a pre 08 bike. The TPS should be adjusted as well. TPS adjustment sets the baseline mixture of the bike, and as was said....They are all different
