I searched the forums last night for about 2 hours before finally giving up, so now I need to ask and I really hope someone can help. I have a 2001 v92c, mileage is anywhere between 8500 and 25000 (used guage off ebay says 25000, old gauge 8500). I assume it hasn't been ran much in the last few years as it was a prior salvage. (some one did a crappie flop into some weeds is what I gather). So, I've done my work, changed the oil, filter, air filter. Took her out for the last couple days with fresh gas and sea foam to help. here are the results: Starts fine, and after some minor adjustments idles fine. Gets warmed up. Shifts like it should. Rolling in town at around 1800-2300 rpm and it surges, but I can't tell if it's starving or loading up. Get it on highway at 55-70 mph and it runs like a champ. Exhaust doesn't smell rich or lean. come back into town, down shift, rolling about 25-35 mph at 1800-2300 again and it starts to surge, kind of feels like it wants to die. Has progressively gotten worse. I'm in the process of removing tank (guy who did the work removed the quick disconnect so I need to get a couple small vise grips to clamp the hoses). I plan on cleaning the throttle body, and replace the plugs, but I want to know if there are any other things I need/should look at or replace while I'm in there. I'm no stranger to turning a wrench, but I am on the Vic as my last one ran fine. I don't have any manuals, so if someone has seen a thread like this with pics, or has some pics they can attach or link me to that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you are on the right track... Recall ID #958 - FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY You might want to make sure this recall was performed. While you are in there, you might as well want to clean the carburetor or even consider a rebuild. Sounds very much like a jet problem.

ok, so I've pulled my tank, and the rear cover of the air box. Question 1) how do you remove the entire air box... seems as if you would have to split the frame.

question 2) What are the sensors inside the air box at the right rear (see pictures below)

Question 3) what is the sensor on the front side of the throttle body (between the jugs below the air box, see pictures).

FYI, I figured out the 2 in the air box (MAP sensor and temp sensor) but still don't know what the one is on the front of the throttle body. I'm assuming it's something to do with air (pause for biff to the head) but I'm wondering if I pull it, is it cleanable... MAP and temp sensors are clean, but this is in the throat, so might be as black and gummed as the butterfly valves.

Ok, I continued searching this forum and it kinda seems like the tps. Doesn't hurt to replace, so I'll try that too. I'm stuck inside at the moment, so I can't do anything with it. Hopefully later tonight. Is that what that part on the throttle body is?

ya... so anyway. TPS fixed it. I did the reset manuever listed in the sticky column and it seemed to work out... wow what a difference. Smoother through the whole range. I'll put her through all the ranges tomorrow, but the stutter is gone. Word to the wise for anyone doing this... check and double check everything before you drop the tank back on, because it sucks taking back off for something stupid.

are these more fun to work on than a old carb machine that had a choke that you could flood the motor, then have to pull the plugs out to dry it out to get it started..Glad you fix the problem, today's machines once you understand them are so much more efficient.

A little tricky at first, but overall not bad to work on. Although if i find the engineer who put a consumable item under a non removable item imma give him such a pinch!!
