part of the Stage 1 upgrade on the old bikes was the installation of the Polaris "off road" EPROM chip. There were several aftermarket ones too but they're getting hard to find. I would think a fuel controller might be the way to go & get your bike dialed in. I sent this link to another guy looking for a performance chip, you can give it a try and see if they have any available-it was one of the best (I have one in my '99) + it raises the red line up a bit too.

check Sumax for plug wires you might need to make the coil end but thats not a big deal.
You would be etter off running a air filter there is no power gain with out one.

@vishionjonny I look the dealer you gave me. They make plugs wires for the freedom style engine. I am running the old v92 engine the plugs wires run do in to the head they are about 6 inches long

So to give you guys a update I put stage two exhust on still running no airbox in 5 gear and cruising at around 2000-3000 rpms the bik will stumle at bit. Bjt as soon as you give a gas it pick the right up. You guys think a power commander will clear this up.

If your bike's cutting out while cruising along at a steady pace at a specific RPM I would say you need a new TPS. If it does it while accelerating a fuel controller could help smooth it out. I have run my '99 for years with a K&N air filter with the top off the box off with no problems.

Sounds like a TPS to me. When mine went bad it would always hiccup at exactly 3000 rpm. The early bikes are very voltage sensitive and the TPS is directly effected if the battery & charging system aren't 100%. You can pick one up at any auto parts store.
GM part #17123852 or if your a Ford guy AC Delco 213-913
it simply replaces your existing TPS on the side of the throttle body. It's been a while but I recall needing a long skinny phillips screwdriver to get to the two screws that hold it on.
