I got my 2013 XC in October but the few times I've been able to get it out between then and now it seems to go through gas really fast. I've been using 93 which is the next up from 89. As I've been reading, I see that some will use 89, but I'm just trying to see if this is a common issue. I'm going to check my air filter to see if it needs to be cleaned (from what I read, it's a reusable). I'm still totally in love with it, but I don't want to let a possible issue continue. A friend said I need to put a power commander on it, which I'm not looking forward to that bill, but if it'll help in the long run, I guess that's a route I'll have to go. I appreciate the advice!

Yes, checking the air filter is the first step and no, it's not reusable if it's stock.

How many miles on the bike, where do you live, does the bike get stored for the winter, what modifications does the bike currently have? We need to know a lot more before an educated guess can be made.

You did not say what MPG your bike gets now, or what kind of riding. Highway? City? Give us something with which we can help you.

About how many miles to you get per tank?
Are you referring to how quickly the fuel gauge drops?

Broggy brings up a good point. There's about 1.5 gallons remaining when the fuel light comes on. That's almost a 1/4 of a tank left.

If I recall correctly (IIRC), I was getting in the mid-to-high 30s off the showroom floor. Approx 180-200 miles per tank.
The XC fuel gauges are quirky; they'll stay 100% full until you've traveled about 50-75 miles, then quickly drop to "E" when you have about 1/4 tank left.

NEVER!! believe your XC gas gauge... its a lair
I set a trip meter at eash fill up and that's what I go by....I fill up between 140-160miles, where I add ~4 gals.(usually my low-fuel light is 20-40 miles before my mileage fuel stop, its always been freaky like this, which is why I don't use it) By my calcs I'm getting 37.5 to 38 mpg which with the engine build and my driving style isn't too bad at all.

stay in 5th gear till over 65 mph. Vic's like rpms and if your shifting to early you'll use more fuel

+1 what VJ said, but I'd make it to 70 before popping it into 6th gear. Shift at over 3500 rpm too.
