K&N filters are far better than a rust filled filter made by the same government that we lost over 58,000 of America's best fighting against. Sorry, but anything is better than buying products from the Vietnamese!!! Thanks Cross Roads for your efforts!
a) How do you know they are made in Vietnam?

b) I am for buying American where possible/practical myself, but why would you hate the Vietnamese? If our country was being invaded by their military, would you behave differently than they did? I think your beef should be with the war-pig politicians who get their people into these situations.

Guarantee they are.
A friend is a buyer for a major motorcycle parts distributor and he said they are. If you go to k&n web page there is no place that says American made.

I wonder if amsoil will be making a filter for these bikes they claim theirs is more affective at removing particles than k&n. They have a good product with testing to back up their claims. Anyone try their air filters in another vehicle or bike ?

The Victory air filter that is made in Vietnam shows it is by it being written on the box the filter comes in. I personnally don't know where K&N filters are made, but anything is better than proping up the Vietnamese government.

Yup. The PL-1500 K&N works just fine. Just needs to be trimmed a bit to fit. Been running mine for over 10k miles and just cleaned it at the 10k mark.

I'd forget about going directly to K&N, just get the Victory one (likely K&N anyway) or the Lloyds one. Guess I just don't see the point in begging K&N for an air filter when you already have 3 options, oem paper, oem performance and Lloyds.

I see that this is quite an old thread, but the survey is link is dead.
So is K&N's interest in making an air filter for the X bikes. If they have had that request form up since 2011 and they don't offer an air filter by now...I wouldn't hold my breath.

Would you buy it if it was made in N Korea, Cuba,or by Barry Obummer?

I don't mind so much PROPPING up a country that we had no business invading, which realistically includes every country except Japan.

That is how I feel about the Germans;;; Lost lives in Vietnam 58,000 is a lot of loss and very sad;;; but the Germans did a lot more that that.. only the gas chambers counts 5,000,000 Jews, this does not include the liberator fighters from USA / GB / Russia / AUS / etc
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Participants_in_World_War_II
.. and NOW they make good medicines as they started out making GAS, Bayer as a sample..... the world is ruled with money and sex.... if you refuse to buy from a country that USA had war with / lost lives then better you grow your own vegetables as the list will be quite long ?

Connections USA - Vietnam See the below website;
http://www.ustr.gov/countries-regions/southeast-asia-pacific/vietnam

http://www.economywatch.com/world_economy/vietnam/export-import.html

On the list I could not find your K&N filter company, :D

All kidding aside choose what you want and buy what you want, these days almost anything is partly made in China or somewhere else anyway?

Victory Engine raw material, Aluminium where did it come from? and were was it smelter-ed ? Electronic connectors & wires labeled China, etc etc..... Apparently even your dentures are just molded by your dentist, then 3D scanned and send by Email to some cheaper country for fabrication - returned by Post....

When I read the first tread I tough this was a amazing GOOD QUESTION and "pole" cheers thumb up

Just a small piece of mind from a guy who worked in approximately 23 or 25 countries, I could not remember some of them.... cheers

Performance Filter from VM

So if K&N don't make a Filter for the XR, what is the Performance Filter that is available from Victory and which I have installed in my XR and which I reoiled only last week..?

Looks like a K&N. Cleans like a K&N. Oiled and Wicked like a K&N..?

I suspect that VM have an exclusive deal with K&N so they cannot sell the Filters Aftermarket for a set period of time.

That is true, but knowing the Name that VM/Polaris have and myself being in the Procurement Game and having done Deals exactly like this myself to ensure a Captured Market, I would suspect that they would have done such a deal with the BEST... just saying.

I'd check the frame where the filter seals on your X bike for a small core void right in the center of the lower sealing surface where the filter seals to the frame. Both my wife'e bike and mine where leaking dirt through that spot. Both our bikes had high silicon in their oil analysis from dirt migrating past the lower edge of the filter. If you have the divot across the sealing edge seal it with some sort of filler like bondo or shoe goo or something so the filter can completely seal.
We are now using the K&N filter grease to insure that no dirt gets through on ours in the future. As deep and as sharp as the divot was in my frame I don't think that any filter would have sealed perfectly without help. On the wife's perhaps a filter with a softer edge might have sealed up her leak. A good thick coat of the right grease most likely would have made either one seal. But it is something to check for.
