A while back, I had to replace the ECM on my '00 V92C due to failure from unknown causes. After replacement, the bike runs great, but my speedo died. Everything else in the cluster works, just no speedo needle movement, and no turn signal cancelling. I still have the original speedo, not the upgraded\replacement version. I know that the needle movement and turn signal cancel circuit are tied in to the speed sensor, but therin lies my problem; I'm not sure if my speedometer circuit is original or has been altered. Is the sensor a small pick-up that reads directly off the front drive sprocket teeth? That's what I have and it's connected via a plug to a small jumper/speed multiplier box which is then tied in to the main harness via another plug. Meanwhile I have another sensor of some sort which goes into the top of the crankcase just behind the rear cylinder and it's wire has been purposefully cut completely off. I cant find mention of a jumper/speed multiplier box anywhere in the online manual. I guess what I'm really asking, is how is the original sensor circuit configured? In my attempts to diagnose the problem, I smoked the jumper/speed multiplier box anyway, so if it's original equipment, I'm gonna have to locate another one. All this resides in the right side cover with the ECM. Thanks in advance...

Black sensor just above the drive pulley is your speed sensor. Check the scrapers on eBay for parts pricing, may help offset the costs.

What about the disabled sensor in the crankcase behind the rear cylinder? Is the sensor you are talking about actually reading off the gear teeth? (mine is, it is at the REAR of the Front sprocket.) Also what about the Jumper/multiplier I mentioned? Can't find any info on it and none listed on Feebay.

No, the sensor for speed is the one to the rear of the front sprocket as you identified. I can't find the ID of the sensor behind the can but if you search BBob service manuals and download the service manual it may point you in the right direction. I just finished looking in my 04 manual can can't find it. Out of time for this evening but will try to pick it back up if I can later. My thought was it is the neutral sensor.. As for the multiplayer... unsure bro, well beyond my knowledge base. Good luck on it!!! Tim

The thing is that a 99 does not use the one that reads from the pulley in its stock form. i would guess the stock sensor went bad and they replaced it with this setup.

Thanks for the input guys! Atbyrne, in your opinion, is the stock sensor for the 99-00 version the one that has been cut off on my bike? I'm thinking this jumper/multiplier is part of an aftermarket or add-on version as well. I'm wondering if I can find a replacement original sensor and plug it directly back into the main harness if I will be back in business.

Tim, anything you find out is bound to help, Thanks!

Correct. I do not know if they are still available or not. A lot of people will use the setup that you have now is what most people have to switch to when they install a newer freedom 92 motor into there older bikes. Either getting the original sensor or the replacement one will work. The sensor on the front pulley is a stock victory part, but the multiplier is not. It is after market I think. I don't think you will find it in a manual.

After checking with a local Vic dealer, I think I have confirmed that the jumper/speed multiplier box is an alteration. What I'm going to attempt to do is plug the sensor back into the main harness without the jumper/speed multiplier.

The main harness wires are:

Green/red stripe
Pink/gray stripe
Black/white stripe

The sensor wires are:

Red (or pink-I can't tell)
White
Black

Anyone know how they pair up?

Also of note, The speed sensor at the front drive gear has a tiny circuit board soldered in and heat shrink protected. Is this normal or is it also an alteration of some sort?

Thanks,
D.W.

Or does anyone have a hard copy of the wiring diagram. I have the online manual, but the text is completely un-readable. If I zoom in, it gets worse. I need to know the wire colors on both sides of the speed sensor plug, which is close to the middle of the schematic page. The speed sensor plug has been de-pinned and the wires on one end are not an exact color-to-color match to the ones on the other side of the connector. Just trying to find out how to orient the wires per the schematic. Any help would be great! Thanks,

D.W.
