This is nothing new for many XC/XCT riders, but I want to share an easy fix with everyone that is as simple as pie to do. I cannot take credit for it as I have read about it either here or on other forums, but finally put it to use for myself. It does in fact work and I could not be more pleased.

Like many riders, my XCT drive belt has always made some noise. Recently when it really got bad, I removed the right side bag and side cover and used some hot soapy water and a brush to really scrub the inner belt and sprocket, rolling the bike forward until I had cleaned the entire belt. When I took off....the thing REALLY squeeled until it dried, then it got a lot quieter, but still made enough noise to be noticeable.

A week later, and ready to go the next step, I again removed the right side cover and bag. With the belt still fairly clean from my prior scrubbing, I simply took a small dry bar of soap (like you would find in a hotel) and started to rub it all over the outside edges of the belt, the entire inner belt, and the exposed rear sprocket, making sure to rub the bar along the inner edge of the sprocket on both sides. I then rolled the bike forward a couple times and repeated the process until I had hit the entire belt. There were lots of soap shavings lying on the floor when I was done.

I took off for work the next morning and could not believe my ears. The belt noise was completely gone...I mean like GONE gone....like there was no belt at all...!! All the way to work I kept waiting for it to come back, but it stayed silent. I was both amazed and ecstatic. What really blew me away was how much quieter the bike was when I hit the freeway. I never really realized how much the belt noise ramped up at speed until there was none. At 70 mph, there was the wind, the hum of the engine and my Witchdoctors exhaust. It truly sounded like a whole new bike. It has always been a pleasure to ride, but now it is a pleasure to listen to as well.

This remedy took me less then ten minutes to apply. Try it if you are battling the belt whine.

Or you can really fix the problem by properly adjusting your belts deflection and alignment instead of covering up the problem with soap.

I agree with this. While we "shouldn't have to" with a new bike, it's a lot less frustrating to readjust via the procedure in the manual.

If you're not good with tools, then ask the dealer.

From what I've read about this....that sounds great if it works. I've also read where multiple trips to the dealer have done little to alleviate the problem for some. I don't have the setup or tools to DIY...and my dealership is a bit of a PIA to deal with, so if this easy and convenient fix lasts for any length of time...I'm okay with it. Besides, the belt noise was very minimal after I washed it all up good....so there wasn't much to cover up. I really like how quiet it is now though...the bike sounds so much more pleasing to ride.

It sucks that your dealer makes it hard. Things are hard enough already. Glad you found something that works for you.

When my belt started to squeak it was only at a certain speed. Not too long after it began, I gave the bike a good cleaning but not to the extent you did with scrubbing the belt and sprocket but none the less, the belt hasn't made a peep since. It's funny that we bag on HD's tractor technology with their engines but not one of the 3 I owned ever made any belt noise nor have I ever heard or read about anyone else experiencing belt squeal.

On some bikes the belt noise can not be adjusted out, period. No mater who does it, or how many times they try. Just the way it is.

I have found that Polyoil (Harley product) works well to quiet down the belt on these bike. Costs only a few dollars, takes a full minute to apply roadside, is water/rain/wash proof, and lasts a couple thousand miles per application. That being said, the long term solution is to change out the pulleys and belt. but that's an expensive fix for a small, easily cured annoyance.

My new XCT just started making some belt noise at around 6,000 miles. Problem will most likely be solved with a good cleaning of the pulleys, belt and proper adjustment.

Had the same problem with the dealer being to far away, they did tell me how to do it, but it also tells you how to do it in the owners manual.
What I did when the belt started to make noise is adjust the belt.
Simple tools, easy to do and the correct way to eliminate the noise.
Loosen the axel bolt, and turn the adjusting nut for belt alignment one flat or two, tighting the belt, depending on how bad the noise is.
The one you adjust is the side the belt is hitting on. This is a very small adjustment and has not effected belt tension. After a few tries the noise has gone away and has not returned. When changing tires as long as you do not move the adjusting nuts the belt alignment stays the same.

Recently my XCT's belt began to make some chirping sounds. I jacked up the bike on my stand and took the saddlebags off and with the bike in neutral rotated the tire forward then backward. The belt was "traveling side to side" depending on the direction I rotated the tire.

Following the Vic manual I adjusted the tension mainly with the right side adjusting nut until I had the correct deflection at 10lbs. The was accomplished with the axle nut only slightly loosened but enough to pull back on the axle. Then I started the bike on the stand and put it in first gear and watched the belt's position with the tire rotating. Using the left side nut I adjusted it until the belt was smack dab in the middle of the rear pully. I then tightened the axle nut and was done.

The belt is totally quiet now. No soap no dressing.. The squeek your hearing is the ridge on both pullys inside and out. They are anything but flat. both have a little wobble at the edge and any belt not perfectly lined up in the middle of the pully it going to rub.

Scorpion you have heard of it now. I had a FLHT that had a chirp that I fixed.by going chain and an Indian that I fixed the same way. I decided that chain was the answer after seeing what my buds went through to fix belt chirp on their Harleys. I have watched it go from alignment to parts swap to chain. Some win with alignment, some with parts swap, all with chain. Scorched earth is how Pop rolls. I will say that belt chirp is relatively uncommon on hawgs but I think it's relatively uncommon on Vics too. Just saying I get 300,000 hits on Google for Harley belt chirp or Victory belt chirp.
As for soap, suppose you buy a bike and take it home only to get a chirp a few rides later. You call the seller and say "Hey, this thing squeals. You said it was showroom."
He says "It is. Just put soap on the belt when it squeals."
So, did he cheat you?
I say yes, and if it' s a cheat why would I cheat myself?
But that's me. I can't stand knowing that my drive line has a recurring issue.
