I'm not sure how many more nice weekends we have left so I started taking it apart today. I was surprised how easy it was to break down, had the sheet metal off in about 20 minutes.
Sure would make a sweet bobber. I don't have the heart to hack her up though.

She's naked, my buddy's Softie was eyeballing her sexy rear and I didn't like it so I covered her up.

Got the clear off of the tank and front fender. I'll get the rear fender tomorrow and spray the sealer on.

I'll update this thread as the weekend goes on. She'll be black and green by Sunday.

Cool looking to paint mine sometime in the near future. What compressor and gun will you be using?

A 40 gallon Ingersoll Rand compressor, a Devilbiss siphon feed sprayer for the color/clear and a Grex Genesis XG airbrush.

I have a red frame. Wish it were black so I could get creative. Good luck

I wish mine was red. You can still be creative, yellows, oranges, blues, and some shades of purple. Can't go wrong with red and silver either. Go for it, don't let the frame color stop you.

Nothing exciting. Had some errands to take care of this morning. I got the rear fender prepped and sealer layed down.

Got the colors sprayed today. I had originally planned on doing green ghost flames, but had a last minute change of plans and wanted more green and went with a more simple design that I think worked out well.

Still have to clear it, not sure the humidity will cooperate tomorrow though. Supposed to rain but the hard part is over with now.

Thanks saint. I like the that a simple layout worked. I'm still thinking I may break out the airbrush and ghost some flames in the open black areas on the tank and rear fender.

I painted my Camaro back in the 70s. He was a master. He let me try. Screwed it up. Takes some serious touch and skill. Great job

I'm by far no expert. I've painted a couple cars back in the day, and a few bikes. Most of my painting was done on R/C car bodies which are a totally different monster, they are painted from the inside so everything is backwards. Dark colors and candies down first then your backing colors. It's weird for me to paint 'normal' and takes a bit to figure out what and how I need to lay everything out.

Buy a decent sprayer. Believe it or not, Harbor Freight sells an HVLP gun for like 30 bucks that will get you by(I have one I bought for spraying masking film). Pick one up, go to your local paint supply store and buy some affordable paint/supplies, grab some old sheet metal and practice your prepping and learning how to spray. You'd be surprised how easy it really is.

I used AutoAir and Wicked Colors on this one through that $30 Harbor Freight gun. This paint is water based and the gun handled it beautifully. When the clear goes on, I'll revert to the old siphon feed sprayer, I know how it sprays and don't want to mess up on the most critical process.

Thanks. I came over to Victory from a Kaw too. That little 800A was a fun bike. Nothing like being able to rip a 250 tire to shreds though.

Between the weather and my time frame(I work swing shift) I took everything to a buddy with a real paint booth, and who's way more proficient with an airbrush. Told him an idea of something to do on the side covers, if he wanted to do it. Otherwise just just shoot and buff it so I can get it together.
